There are some detail-shops here in sweden that do the "safety-groove". I wonder if that is common in the USA?
The safety groove is a 0,3 mm deep cut in the front window on each side and is supposed to remove dust etc and sharpen the rubber. It makes the window and the rubber last longer. Here we charge 50$ for making it and it takes about 30 min. Does this sounds like something you heard of?
