Anyone have a Shop Vac?

I have an older Shop Vac (14 gal, 10.5 amps - not sure of the HP)

I also have a Ridgid 4 gal, 5 HP Portable Pro Vac (9 amps). I love the portability for detailing, and it is very powerful. For $70 bucks, I really love it! :D

They both sound about the same to me.

When having a a shop, RIGID's lifetime warranty has come in handy on several occasions. Sears stopped accepting my returns because they claim their vacs aren't intended for commercial use?

Shop Vac is claiming they are quieter than the competition (I guess this is directed to Ridgid)...any thoughts about that?

I have two Shop Vacs and a Sears Craftsman Vac. One of the Shop Vacs is a big chrome one on wheels and the other is a small wall mounted model. Both of the Shop Vacs are relatively quiet . . . especially compared to the Craftsman. (The Craftsman is so annoying that I don’t use it any more.)

If you want a quiet vacuum cleaner buy a Míele.

'I have a 5 year old Shop Vac that the power switch died on. When I contacted Shop Vac for a replacement switch they informed me that they do not supply replacement components and that I would have to buy a complete power unit for $65.16 plus a $6.00 handling charge. I replaced the switch with a $2.50 toggle switch and put Shop Vac Products on my \"do not buy\" list.'

I have a 2.5hp shop vac its great. I dont need a large one and this actully fits int he trunk of my mustang with all my cleaning stuff when i go out to detail. All my family has ever used was hop vacs no craftsmen ones.

I got that shop vac mini. it is a one gallon 1hp. The only thing I did not like was the short hose. Well today I went to Lowes found a 8 foot hose that I connected to the original one, So as of now, there is 11 feet of hose. I thought the suction would be really bad, but after I hooked it up , I was actaully amazed, it really did not seem to lose any suction. or none that I really noticed. I also bought a car/computer little attachment package. same isle as the shop vac's. That tool kit was only like 8 bucks. I was amazed with that little detail kit and for only 8 bucks. it has about 6-7 mini attachments. almost like sticks. Just giving any of you a heads up if you have a lowes by you. I would highly recomend that little attachment package. I have used another shop vac that is a lot bigger and more HP, but I feel that my little one does just as good if not better. and it was only like 30 bucks if that. I bought it a few years agao at true value.

Any thoughts on the other brand Shop Vac?

I've been disappointed in the durability of both Shop Vacs and Craftsman. I get less than 2 years out of the Craftsman and 12-18 months out of the Shop Vacs. Obviously, I use mine a lot more than the someone who only does their own cars so you might not have any issues with yours.

I have a customer with a large Shop Vac that is blue instead of the usual red and it is very quiet but I don't know about the suction.

I now have a Ridgid 4050 and am very happy with it. With a 4" wide attachment, it picks up floor mats.

My Craftsman is 20+ years old. My ShopVac is 10+ years old. I use them both several times a week. They are both still working fine. I've never had any problems with either one of them. (Other than the fact that the Craftsman is too loud.) Maybe they built them better 10 or 20 years ago.

Ditto on the ridgid, Mine is probably running for 2 hours per day, that thing takes pure abuse like a champ, I also run mine without a filter, using water insted

I got this Vac n' Vac last fall from ShopVac (bought it at Lowe's). This thing is AWESOME! You can use the smaller Vac to detail because it is light, has it's own set of narrower tools (producing more suction), and loses no hp when removed from the larger Vac because it houses the power components. If you want to use the larger Vac around the house, you attach the larger tools (for larger areas) and you're ready to go! I think it's a great product and VERY user friendly. It has a handy blower feature too that I use to dry wheels and the engine only since I'm paranoid about blowing the dust I just sucked up back onto the car.

I really want that vacuum. I hope my wife buys me a vacuum for Christmas. :)
