Anyone have a definitive method for IHG?

I got the car in October of 2002. I spent October, November and December putting more hairline scratches on it than you can imagine. From ten feet away the car looked beautiful, but as you got closer this sea of swirl marks became apparent.

I was using Zaino at the time. I am not saying that it was the Zaino causing the swirls, but I will say that I was following the instructions as closely as I possibly could (Fieldcrest-white towels before anyone asks) applying the product by hand and everytime I turned around there were more swirls. I am sure it was just my faulty technique.

Finally, I broke down and bought a PC, some 3M products and went to work. Many, many days later the car began to resemble the vehicle I purchased. I wouldn't have made it without this forum. You have no idea how relieved I was the first time I ran a MF across a door panel with an alcohol/water solution and didn't see any more swirls.

This forum rules.... :bow :bow :bow

I prepped the finish with Menzerna Final Polish using a PC with a grey finishing pad per Dave B's instructions (see thread on Menzerna ). I made two passes over each panel to remove the product with a MF towel.

Then I followed up with Mother's Sealer and Glaze (once again, PC and a different grey finishing pad).

Then I topped it with S100, let is cure for 24 hours and then gave it a second layer of S100.

Eventually, I am going to go back and try Menzerna's Intensive polish to remove some swirls that are lingering from before, but I thought I would give it a few months before I went through that aggressive a process.

Then I would really like to try Klasse AIO and SG topped by S100 or Souveran (again, per David B). But that will have to wait a while.

I may try Zaino again at some point, but if I do, it will be machine applied.

:D

Blkon Blk,

Great Job with the glaze and wax!:bow :bow

I will have to try the Mother's Sealant Glaze some time soon after seeing your nice pics. I too would like to recommend Souveran wax and Crystal Mist QD. I think they would be a great companion to your black Z and the sealant glaze. Very dark and wet looking.

Again, sweet pics of a sweet car! :xyxthumbs

Cheers,

My Black 7 Series

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually have a jar of Souveran that I haven't cracked open yet. I have been waiting until I can do a little more thorough job of prepping the car. I wantred to make sure that if I was going to spend that kind of money on wax that I prepped the surface properly to give it the fullest effect.

Now, the Crystal Mist is a QD that I have heard of but have yet to try. I have also heard Scottwax mention ClearKote's QD as a worthy product.

So many things to try.....eventually I might actually get to drive it, too :D .
