anyone good with tv's?

i have a 55" sony bravia led 3d 1080 240 tv, and it doesnt look as good as my 720 40" plasma.



i havent fooled around with the settings yet other than turning the backlight off.

it helped alittle bit but for this tv to one of the top tv out there,



i think the picture needs to be alot better



anoyone know any good tv forums, or have success configuring their own tv ?
 
I don't think I can help you, but Plasma tv has the best picture according to videophiles. I have a Panny Plasma.



What do yo mean by: it doesnt look as good



Is the plasma on vivid?
 
You most likely need to do a color calibration on the unit. Often times, these are done by professionals but can easily be done DIY (cheaply) as well. If that's not an option, be sure to peruse AVS Forum, find your TV, and read up on the various settings that most users implement on your particular TV model.
 
I am always on the subwoofer forum there, Rob Tomlin is there as well.

Before I bought my TV I researched for weeks. I came to the same conclusion, that Plasma was better for me. The only downfall is glare, which isn't much of a problem for me.



While I haven't seen the Sony 3D you have, I have seen many LCD's and a few LED's and still think my Plasma has better picture.



You could have it calibrated and cnet is always a good start for reviews.

Good to see some detailers there :D I visit once in a while but don't really post too often. I'll see you guys around :)
 
The self calibration shouldn't be too hard. I had my rear projection professionally done for about $400. You can get the AVIA disk and tweak it pretty good.
 
i changed the LED to the hdmi feed and it was a little better.



i went upstairs and put the plasma to the hdmi and it looked even better than it did !!



i didnt buy this TV, i won it in a grab bag @ work.

i think i am going to sell it and go buy a 58" plasma

LED TVs are characteristically "brighter" and more contrasty than plasmas.

So, you end up seeing less details, but are captivated by the apparent brightness.

Traditionally, Sony's LCDs were also renowned for their brightness and it could be a tad tiring when watching certain movies.



Try to tone down your LED's brightness. Try avoiding a dim/dark viewing environment.



I'm a Panasonic and Pioneer plasma user, and plasmas are still the way to go IMO for great quality viewing.
 
a couple pleasant members from avs forum gave me some suggestions. i played a regular dvd on a blue ray player last night,

it recognized the 1080 and when i put the cable back on, the tv recognized it as 1080



it looks better on the hd channels BUT the colors are still off.....colors are definitely more vibrant on my plasma,

i will try adjusting some things today and report back



side note,

when i was looking for my first flat panel TV, the guy @ best buy told me plasma's were the way to go for sports and cars and items like that.

well thats all i watch, and movies of course,



thats why i went with the plasma. my plasma through the hdmi feed on an hd channel looks amazing ( and no fiddling needed )
 
Your television almost certainly needs to be calibrated. You can pay someone to come out and perform a proper ISF calibration on the set, but it'll cost you. What I've been doing with my high-definition televisions is calibrate them myself using the Digital Video Essentials Blu-Ray disc. It's available on Amazon for about $20, and offers very good instruction on how to calibrate your television, and provides a ton of video images and some color slides to use in the calibration. It'll have your TV looking *close* to its best, and only costs $20 and an hour or two.



As a side note, plasma has a hold on best picture quality with today's television technology. I've yet to see an LCD television that can even come close. However, your Sony should be able to look really good, so get that disc, get it calibrated, and start enjoying it more!
 
i use to be a big sony fan of electronics, but now prefer samsung. IMO, their tv's (or electronics for that matter) are much better than sony's...

yeah we have a 52" flat screen and my nephew just got a 32" for BF/Chrsitmas and they are :2thumbs: . a while back when i was at sams club they had two identical sized flat screens by both sony and samsung side by side and the samsung was clearly more vibrant in colors and clarity...
 
I have both a 46" Samsung LED 1080 120hz and a Samsung Plasma. On Blu Ray, I much like the LED, on xbox / ESPN, both are nice but Plasma might be a tad better. If your in a dark lit room, plasma is the best bang for the buck.
 
Side by side LED TV's, Sony and Samsung, identical size and almost identical stats (the Sony had slightly better numbers) and the Samsung was obviously better. I heard the plasma TV's don't last very long so I went with LED.
