Anyone go to networking events for referrals?

I'm thinking this would be a good idea to get referrals from people whose cars you haven't serviced. As I mentioned in another thread, I'm reading a book on networking, and it has made me realize what a huge opportunity it presents if done correctly. Does anybody go to regular networking events, or belong to referral groups? Chamber of Commerce? Just wondering if anyone has used these things to their advantage, and how you've used them effectively.

Yeah I have a friend in Insurance that has invited me to a networking meeting once. It was OK, but at this meeting everyone was either a realtor or sold insurance or other sales. They really didn't seem to care that much about Detailing. But that was just one networking meeting. I have to choice the right one, with contractor or other service oriented businesses.

Exactly. Gotta find the right networking group. Then give it time, refer lots of other people, and eventually you'll get referrals flowing in from them after you've proven yourself to be a valuable referrer and that you really want to help out the other members. At least, that's the theory...Curious to see if anyone has made it work for them.
