like the title says.. just wonderin if anyone has ever put indoor outdoor carpet in the garage... i'm tryin to talk my parents into layin some down out there.. you think it would be a good idea or a bad idea?

BAD IDEA.... get race deck.... if your not driving in snow rain or mud it would be ok. otherwise..messy..

look up my posts i have a race deck like floor in mine at .88 sqft

Yeah, bad idea. Besides the whole issue of getting wet, carpet can be a magnet for the kind of dirt that cleans up off a "bare" floor. I used to detail in the dealership's showroom when I had that building and the carpeted area was a hassle compared to the uncarpeted part. From polish dust, to dirt, to you-name-it (wait until you spill a liquid polish/wax on it :rolleyes ), the carpet was a real PIA.

Yeah, go with some of that stuff suggested above or an epoxy coating if cash is short. My father-in-law recently laid vinyl tile in his garage in checkerboard pattern, and so far it's holding up well. Parked on every night too.

I carpeted mine with the commercial carpeting tiles.... mainly because I got them free!

I like it, but I have relatively little traffic through the garage (just storing "garage queens"). It does seem to keep the garage warmer in the winter (although it could be my imagination). It is definitely warmer and more comfortable to walk/stand on (especially barefoot or in socks).

Downsides: oil/dirt/grease are a pain to clean up, and you can't just blow all the stuff out with a leaf blower like you can with a bare/epoxied floor.

Yep, spillage, unexpected leaks, etc would be a real issue with a carpeted garage floor. I just use some remnants for the areas where I'd like it more plush.

I live in an apt. with a 2 car attached garage and my garage is carpeted.

I just saw some guys pulling carpet out of one of the other apts and asked if I could have the carpet. When it gets too messy and stained, I pull it out, roll it up and put it out on the curb and go get some more from the maintenance guys. I am on my 3rd carpet in thier. I love having carpet in my garage. When I get a house, I am going to get the grey "coin" matting though, so I can just hose it off when dirty. :hifive:

My grandma has had a carpeted floor since I can remember, has got to be over 20 years now. I love it actually. My grandpa must of used some heavy duty indoor outdoor stuff becasue they have always used the garage to park car year round.

yeah i wouldnt do the entire garage...cleaning it will be hard especially if any oil finds its way on the carpet..however if you have left over strips, you cant lay that where around a workbench to make it more comfortable on ur feet..if you do carpet, i would only carpet in walking areas only where theres no vehicle traffic....maybe look into getting the rubber/vinyl mats
