'Hunny, I know you were sick this morning, so I wiped the snow off your car too.'

All I could think was 'oh the horror!!' and all I could say was 'Thanks babe, I appreciate you doing that while I am sick'.

This made me wonder how many other autopian's have this exact situation happen to them, and thier first thought was 'you did what??!'...

That would never happen in our household. :D

I don't let her do stuff like that.

Plus we have a 2 car garage.

Plus she knows better.

========================================================

BUT, after all it is just a car and you should appreciate her kindness.

The paint CAN be fixed.

Everyone in my life knows not to do ANYTHING to my vehicles even down to putting gas in it..

They have tried to do things that to most would seem a "good deed" only to find out it twas a "no no"...

So instead of investing time to think of "he (I) would mind" they just skip it all together...

My wife knows that any contact with the paintwork is hazardous to her health. Most weekends she shouts through, "Mick, come & watch this tosser over the road, he's washing his car with a sponge again!"

My wife knows to never touch my paint. She also has been "trained, to always push the door shut using the trim around the window and not by the paint or glass. My wife knows how careful I am and doesn't want me spending another Saturday in the garage messing with my car so she is pretty careful.

My dad knew someone who used a broom to remove snow from their hood. :grinno:

I don't think I need to mention how bad the scratches were.

Everyone in my house is fully trained on handling (or not handling) our vehicles. Plus, wifey and I are more than happy to leave the hard labor to me, especially since she already does a lot. Bless her soul.

If I have a driver car sitting in the snow, it can more than likely be cleaned with a snow shovel. The cars i really care about are nice and warm in the shop anyway.

Hahaha, I think my brother did that a couple days ago...I asked him what he wiped his car off with....and he pointed at the broom in the garage...I was like "ohhh lordy"!!

Wow. metal shovels? Wow. Well my family knows that pretty much anything that they do to their cars is wrong. So they don't do it to mine. I'm 17, so no wife/sig other, but my parents used to offer to take my car somewhere and get it washed on the way back. Lol, I warned them to NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER wash my car for me. Or do anything to clean it for that matter. I don't even let them change the windshield wiper blades because most likely they would lean up against the paint with their zippers and belts and all sorts of other stuff.

this is my first winter since i found autopia, i was just leaving the snow on my car so i would not have crazy marring in the spring until a peice of snow with ice or something slid off my truck and put a huge scratch in the paint, i hit it with a 4" yellow the and then orange and you can still see it, so now i just carefully clean my car

Luckily we don't get snow in Houston, but for some reason my gf of 4 years still slams my car door like its a 1973 F-150. I've been telling her for the past 3 years and 10 months, but its never changed.... Sigh....

My uncle in Chicago uses a broom to clean the snow off his 2000 Park Avenue and wet dirt to clean off bird bombs. His car was so beautiful when he bought it. With all the dents, scrapes, etc. it's beyond detailing Anyway, he parks his car outside even though he had a new 2-1/2 car garage built last August. He's now talking about getting a 2008 Malibu. Maybe he'll take care of this one. Not!!!!

I had to laugh when I read that, I used to know someone who would get all bent when you would slam his door...except he drove a Pinto. Maybe it was one of his other POS's...but there was just no way you could close the door right for him, if you didn't close it all the way you got yelled at, if you closed it too hard you got yelled at.

It's ok, he lives in piles of his own garbage now.

Well thats a little weird. I could care less if she slams the door of my focus. But a E46 vert door doesn't like to be slammed. Especially when she is applying all the force to the window. :soscared:

My son was about 5 years old when he did Dad "a favor" and brushed the snow and ice off my car. It took me several hours to get the scratches out of the paint. Folks just don't understand!

Reminds me of an incident with my wife. A couple of days ago, she said she had some bird droppings on her car, so she cleaned them off when she came home.

I asked her what she cleaned them off with. She said with that green stuff we have in the garage. I said that green stuff is APC and is not to be used on paint! :(

My detailing cart has at least 4 different kinds of QD (Meg's Last Touch, UQD, QD, Mother's QD, etc), and she choose APC over all of them... I guess I'm lucky at least that she didn't choose the Meg's Wheel Brightener or glass cleaner that's there too.

My family back north is the same way, I usually end up pulling out the wool pads when I clean up their cars in May. 4 years of telling them and they still don't get that the indoor/outdoor broom we use to clean the driveway isn't appropriate for cleaning off paint.

I've got an old chenille mitt that I throw over my glove if I have to brush something off. Good thing I only go home for 3 weeks during the winter or I think I'd go crazy.
