Anyone damaged paint with a PC7424 ?

I came close once - I actually wrote about it in Back to Black - Detailed Ferrari 360 Today

The danger is from the backing plate coming into contact with the car when the pad fails. I was lucky - the vinyl of the backing plate transferred, looking awful, but didn't leave any lasting damage. On the other hand, I <strong class='bbc'>was[/b] lucky.

Hey Irvin I think that the number of views vs. the number of responses is helping to tell the story.

The PC is like riding 1000 miles in a day on a motorcycle for the first time. It broadens your horizons and range of what's possible.

A PC will not only improve your results but it will allow you to achieve those results in less time and with less muscle. Furthermore it allows products like FI II and SMR to work properly by creating enough friction to break down the diminishing abrasives while you are working the product.

Here's a couple of things to watch out for: <ul class='bbc'>[*] Hitting the machine or backing plate on mirrors [*] Keep the pad flat against the cars surface. If you have hard to reach angles you may have to them by hand. [*] Keep your motions flowing while you are using it. Don't stop to concentrate on specific areas.[/list]

This post has great responses, but I can add one, in a Mr. Miyagi like voice:

'Always look balance. No balance, paint *squish* like grape'

Basically - make sure you've got good footing and clearance around the car, and that you're clear of the cord. One false move, and you'll be banging that PC moving at high speed into the paint, which isn't a good thing.

LOL! I was watching that the other night with my girlfriend, and I stated about how low-quality a job daniel was doing on those cars, as he was not polishing them first, nor was he using a quality, brand-name wax (the cannister is unmarked)......

she just slapped me, told me I was crazy, and to not be so critical of the quality of detailing in the movie...... "pay attention more to the meaning of why he's doing the wax job in the first place, not to how well he's doing it" :o :D

:xyxthumbs

i have found them 100% safe - just make sure you operate it carefuly - and do a regular inspection on the buffer - check for worn out pads - lose wiring etc..

LOL, good story, SLPCar Luvr! My girlfriend does the same thing to me.

Side note, have you ever noticed that in movies, all the cars look either super clean or freshly freshly detailed?? Whether it's a taxi driving by in the background, an old police car, or the main character's Ferrari, the car looks great. Has any one else noticed that, or am I seeing things (wishful thinking ;) like it's the perfect world or something-- it'd be like auto Utopia... Autopia :) )

And as I drift further off topic, I saw Rollerball this weekend (I didn't want to) and it was horrible, as you could guess. But there were some killer cars with great detail jobs and good lighting to make the cars look spectacular. There was one brief scene where all the cars were lined up-- Ferrari F350, a new Shelby, Diablo, etc.-- the lights hit the cars perfectly, kinda like that picture a while back where we couldn't tell if it was the lighting, the paint jobs, the chrome, or some heavenly wax. It was awesome...

Sorry, I had to get that out of me! :p

Just make sure you put the PAD end on the car... if you use the metal side or hit the car with it the PC... you might hurt the paint.

Sorry bad joke.

short cut, are you an iron butt rallyer? 1000 miles a day is a loooong way to ride a motorcycle in a day. if you did it, kudos to you. my best so far was 100 miles on a bicycle. and only around 200 on a motorcycle.
