Anybody have any experience with the Infiniti QX56?

No. I don't think it is "ugly as sin" but I think there are nicer looking SUVs available. Better than the Armada, at least.

While I don't think it's ugly, it's definitley controversial. I think it's a 'handsome' looking boat.

I guess it's a love it or hate vehicle. Is it as ugly as the Azteck/Rendezvous ? IMO, hell no.

It's not something you can say you get tired of seeing everywhere like Explorers or Escalades. ;)

Edit: actually, the more I look at it on Infiniti's gallery, the more beautiful it looks. See it here.

Am I the *only* one that thinks the QX is ugly as sin???

I didn't like it at first but it kinda grows on you. And the interior is *very* nice. The Lexus LX470 doesn't, however. And it's been out awhile...

One thing about the QX, make sure your Mom has AAA. My sister in law had a flat and called for service. The tow truck guy came by and as he was changing out to the full size spare I could see the distress on his face. That wheel/tire weighed 70 lbs and getting it back under the vehicle was a bear!!

IMO, hell yes. Drove one from LA to Sacto over Christmas. Looks like a misbegotten cross between a suv and a minivan w/worst attributes of each. That was my first impression. After a few days it stopped bothering me so much but then on the drive home 6 days later I saw another one on the road and said "EWWW, is that what we look like?!"

You think the QX is as ugly as the Azteck and Rondezvous?

I meant, is the QX as ugly as those. Not, "Is the Azteck ugly?".

No, no, sorry I misread your post, I meant the Aztek and Rendezvous was ugly, not the QX! :o :)

Ah, I couldn't agree more.

I'm in the process of selling the QX to my dad today. He just touched down from a week long trip. Maybe he'll appreciate the truck.

Didn't you say your parents are 2 years away from buying? Why are you trying to sell them on the QX56 when they'll likely change their minds several times between now and then?

Because it gives me the chance to go see and ride in new cars. Like I said though, if they find something too good to pass up, they'll consider buying.

So whether it's really productive or not, it's still fun. Kind of like going to a car show.

If they find a deal too good to pass up on a QX this early in its run then the deal will ONLY get better.

IMO it appears to have down syndrome.

Update.

We went and looked at/ test drove the QX56 today. My mom's feelings about it are pretty simple: she friggin loves it, and is bringing Dad back to look at it.

Now, mine:

The interior is awesome. The only thing that felt a little cheapish to me were the temperature knobs on the dash. They just felt a little too plasticky. The seats were excellent, and the 2nd row heated and adjustable captain's seats had awesome legroom. This is a key thing, because my size 14 All Stars don't fit behind most seats. Even the 3rd row had enough room foy my mom (5'6) to be comfortable on relatively short trips.

The gadgets and gizmos were all over, and I had too much fun playing with stuff. The car has a good solid feel, and is actually much better looking in person.

Driving- 5.6 V8 with 315 HP and 390 Tq. It moves. Considering its size, it's lightning fast. For any kind of car (save for an exotic, etc) it's quick. Turning radius was great. We pulled a Y-turn on a 2 lane road. Nissans VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) is what the Skyline/G35x uses for AWD. If the car detects slippage in the rear, it send power up front to correct it. Mom tried to break the rears loose doing a slalom (in an empty parking lot) and the car pulled through very well. It's also good for towing 9,000 lbs. While this won't replace Dad's superduty in towing our 31 ft. boat trailer, it does have some cojones.

The ease of use of the whole thing, from folding the seats down to backing that thang up, was awesome. For someone not too advanced with gizmos and whatcha-ma-callits, my Mom got the hang of everything right away, except for the backing up distance meter thing in from the back-up camera. I'll help her with that the next time we see it. I can't say muc for the sound system (Bose) because I wasn't going to crank up anything worth crnaking up with the dealer in the car, talking to Mom the whole time.

My thoughts: I hope to be waxing a Graphite Metallic one in the semi-near future.

Oh, and ask me what the good news/bad news is :D

Wow, I thought you'd never ask! ;) :D

Bad News: Well, you may know that I had planned on getting our '01 TJ to drive when I turn 16. The bad is that Dad decided he loves it more than he likes me, and isn't going to give up his daily driver.

The good news is, I'm in the market :D
