Anybody ever use RO/DI filtered water to wash their car?

Well Supe, I guess that's it for the cheap CRSpotless trials. After messing with a couple of different small filters from that older thread I determined that if I messed with it again it would be with a CRS system instead of screwing around with the smaller filters. Sometimes $300 or $400 doesn't look so bad after you've wasted almost 1/2 of that in other filters.

That's exactly what happened to me. :)

It was fun doing all that messing around, but in the end, I wish I woulda just bought the CRSpotless first.

Although the home made one is finding use... I use it as a pre-deionizer to make sure my old resin is *really* worn out before chucking it.

I'm 50/50 on my CR unit. I really like the fact that it does work. However, since I can only flow about 2.5gpm through it (I tried like 4 and it fried my resin after 2 washes), it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to rinse the car when finished.

Does anyone know if this spotfree thing works? I am thinking in the long run it would be cheaper than using resin. Am I dreaming here :p.

Spot Free portable water softener and water filter system

They will *soften* your water, but they won't *de-ionize* your water. They are also way more expensive than a CRSpotless.

You want de-ionized water, not softened. I'm too lazy right now to type out all the differences yet again. Just trust me on this. :)

Hey SuperBee,

Do you drive a blue charger? I think you passed me on I-215 southbound!

Yup, it was probably me. My Charger is a B5 Blue SuperBee. I'm on I-215 quite a bit, since I'm on the west side of the valley. I'm easily recognized as the one doing ten under the speed limit in the left lane... Oh, no wait... that describes *every* Utah driver... :D

I thought I'd save Supe some time and copy this from an old post of mine. ;)

The water quality of DI vs. soft water is not comparable. DI water will have << less total dissolved solids than any soft water system alone could ever achieve.

The biggest advantage of the CR Spotless or any DI water filter is that you can wash a car in direct sunlight. Using enough DI water to rinse removes mineral laden water off of and out of any cracks/crevices and you can allow the car to air dry. It could also be an advantage for those worried about towel induced marring. Or, it may be worth the extra cost to those who are interested in not having to dry vehicles after a wash and see this as a time savings.

The biggest trade off between DI and soft water remains that soft water is never = spot free.
