Any updates on Costco microfiber?

Hey guys,

I was reading through the archives about Costco's large bag of yellow microfiber towels and came up with a lot of old/conflicting info.

I just picked up a bag tonight - it was a large plastic package with either 20 or 36, I already forgot!)

What are your feelings on the product today? Safe or no?

Thanks!

Interesting, I picked up a bunch and they're wonderful for paint.

I've never caused post-polish marring with them, ever.

I'm going to have to search for this information, I'm curious.

If I cannot find it for some reason, & if anyone has a link - please share.

Oh, I got more than 20, no doubt.

Good for general cleaning such as rims, door jams, engine, does lint so don't wash with your premium mfs.

they work good for door jams, wheels, and so forth. the first batch i bought, the ends were not sewn very well and came apart exposing the white thread underneath...

I experienced the same problem with my first set of Costco mfs. The quality has improved since they first started selling it. I don't use them for paintwork but you can't beat the bang for the buck when it comes to general purpose towels for those dirty areas you'll be cleaning.

Sam's Club offers bulk mf towels that's very similar in quality. IMO, what's even nicer is that their towels do not contain tags, comes in a few different color choices besides yellow, and they are cheaper (not per towel, but overall because you get 30 in a bag instead of 36 I think at Costco).

I've used them on paint (before a member here). Now, I mostly reserve them to interior, door jambs, glass, etc. I've accumulated a few higher quality MFs -- which I used for removing wax/polish. I do us the Costco ones for the occassional QD bird bomb. I also use them for home dusting:). You can't beat the price.

They actually got somewhat fluffy (more than new) when I washed them, and added viniger to the spin cycle:)

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but....I can't believe i'm asking this..the mfs at Autozone, are they just as bad as the ones at costco or sams? I'mnew to the whole detailing thing and those were the ones I used.

Ive been using them since i started in this business 3 months ago, Ive had mixed results on different polishes and waxes. I now mainly use them for the dirty jobs as they do wash out so well after use. They did scratch my black soft lexus painy though, so now i only use good quality micro fibres for taking polish and wax off. Brilliant value though!

I picked up a bag of 36 (yellow) 3-4 months ago at a Costo here in Fort Worth, TX. Very nice towels. In fact, these towels are identical (but light blue color) to some $4 each towels I picked up from a popular boutique supplier. I'm not complaining - that's business.

Sure is nice to have a good number of MFs.

You will have your answer when you get a really good micro-fiber towel in your hands. It will be the “moment of truth as they say. That’s when you won’t touch your paint with the Costco/Warehouse/PepBoy’s bulk packs.

In my opinion, the bulk-pack MF towels are better than the old bath towels that get high-jacked from the linen closets, but when you get a really good, heavy weight Micro Fiber towel in your hands (unfortunately not cheap) you’ll know exactly what the bulk-packs are for.

Not too much of a snob NOT to use them, as I use the Costco bulk pack stuff all the time, but only for rims, glass, interior, door jams, and hood and trunk channels.

exactly :)

I can't stand them using them with polishes...they got demoted to cleaning interiors and other dirty areas. They're WONDERFUL for interiors though :)

good thing i searched...haha... picked up a bag of 20 for like $17 bucks..interior it is..

i had no idea that MF could be used for cleaning glass, drying, and polishing.... so new...

i have a big ol WW dehydrator and some tornados coming from ESHINE....yay

phats

I've tried them all from the inexpensive Costco/Sam's brands to the high-end Cobras. Personally, the Costco's work fine except they get "flat" meaning not much nap after a while. I use them for QD applications on outside paint (hint, it does help to fold it in eights for cushior feel.

The high-end Cobras et.al are used for buffing off sealant or wax. They do keep their shape/nap better but don't see the need to buy/use only those.

Still, hard to beat 20-25 decent towels for $12 bucks. Certainly better than old bath towels.

Just my 2 cents.

The yellow ones from Costco are the ones that I use. They are the best by far.

Here's an update: Went to Costco in Simi Valley, CA yesterday and they had plenty of the towels. Hope this helps :)
