can have a rookie, like me, learn the correct method to "buff out," wax, etc., a vehicle.

I mean, with the variety of machines, pads, compounds available, it overwhelms me.

I'd like to learn how to do it, preferably avoiding (my biggest nightmare!) "burning," the clearcoat.

Whats the best, in you'se opinions, machine and pads and compounds to start with, please? Thanks alot, too!

If you are using a machine like a Porter Cable 7424 then there isn't much risk of burning the paint. That is the machine I would recommend to a 'rookie' anyway. The rest of the advice that I would offer is on OCDetails.com in the form of a few articles. I've posted a lot of them here, so it isn't anything doing a bit of research on your part by reading through the forums wouldn't fix for ya. :)

Well for starters I would get a PC 7424, its easy to use, can do most anything its larger counterparts can do, its cost effective and relatively safe...

As for polishes well thats a matter of preference...I would recommend the Poorboys line, get your self the SSR line, and a good set of pads. The pads come in a kit and can be purchased with the PC as part of a package, you end up saving money that way.

Remember when polishing always start with you least aggressive combo, meaning if you are using the SSR line as an example start with a white LC pad and SSR1, if that doesn't do the trick maybe try SSR1 or SSR 2 with a orange polishing pad.

I would also pickup one of Poorboys newer glazes, based on your vehicles color will determine whether you get the White Diamond or the Blackhole...these glazes will essentially fill in any light defects you could not get out and is good during in between washes when after dryin you get some light swirling...

follow this up with either a carnuba wax or a sealent, again its a matter of preference on the look and durabilty you are looking for.

Thanks alot, both.

I found a earlier Thread that answered alot, plus with your two responses, I think I'm good to go.

(Mod) close this if you like and thanks).
