Any truth to this?

Correct. The glaze (depending on the formula) more or less is used to add depth to the paint. I think the "correct" thing your body guy should have said is "It's not good to use TOO MUCH wax." TOO much wax is bad. It's those guys that are basically reapplying wax every 2 or so weeks. That's a no-no and often times does nothing to help protect the car more. Really all they're doing is trapping in oxidation and other pieces of crap on the paint surface.

Some tips:

Use a sealant along with a wax. Waxes typically last 1-2 months at best. A sealant can often times go for 5-6 months. I've had GREAT luck with Jetseal109 on longevity. I even use it on my wheels to make it easier to clean the brake dust off.

Glazes are your friend. Make sure to find a glaze that is meant for your specific vehicle color. They can add tons of depth to the paint.

Spray on detailer is your friend!

NEVER reapply wax unless you have stripped the old wax off (which will often times take EVERYTHING off)

Heavy duty correction is only needed maybe 1-2 times every 3 years. What I mean by heavy is anything above a white pad and Stage 2 (Heavy Duty Swirl Removal, Compound. etc) I give my cars a thorough detail every two years then just maintain with a white pad and light swirl remover. This helps minimize clear-coat degradation.

If you're dead set on using wax then stick with a spray-on wax like Meguiar's.

Meguiar's Direct Ultimate Quik Wax

This stuff rocks. More or less just a step above a QD but doesn't have enough longevity to hurt anything.

Bunk. Wax doesn't layer (well, I guess spit shining can,but that is not nornmal application). What are you trapping, oxidized wax?????

Too much wax? Not a problem. Still, if your wax lasts you don’t need to reapply it all that often.

Trapping in oxidation? As if it’s going to go away on its own if you leave it alone?

Glazes are not color specific.

" Spray on detailer is your friend! "

I agree with that.

" NEVER reapply wax unless you have stripped the old wax off (which will often times take EVERYTHING off) "

Uh yeah, right. Wax is an evil force that devour the universe. That's what the voices in my head tell me.

Correction is needed when it’s needed. If the finish isn’t exposed to hazards it will never need heavy correction. If it gets hammered it’ll need it often. (But you will eventually run out of paint.)

Yes, Meg’s UQW is a great product.

Because it’s fast, easy and effective. Not because it “doesn't have enough longevity to hurt anything.” That’s stupid.

pc.

PrnceHoliday- There's a mix of fact and fiction in what he posted (the other PC did a good job of addressing each point).

Short answer: disregard what that person says. The internet is full of people who are *NOT* good sources of info, and he's one of them.
