Any tips on getting more customers??

Living in a rich area doesn't always mean that you will get paid like a rock star. The very cheapest people I've worked for had tons of money. The best tips I got were from people who skiped lunch for a week to be able to afford the job. I don't even bother putting flyers on Mercedes or Porsches. I figure I'll do their neighbor's Intrepid and that will speak louder than any flyer on their windshield. Not that people who drive nice cars are snobs or tight or anything. Its just been my experience that you'll get more business from the majority of the common cars on the road than you will from the high end cars. I'm just a hobbyist so I tend to avoid the really really nice cars anyway. I don't need that kind of liability.

Has anyone actually tried calling newspaper ads and offering their service to them?

If so, please, do tell what you said to the person.

I took the clasified section today, and circled about 20 or 25 ads, but i'm not sure as to how to approach someone selling their car..

I mean would they really want to spend $100 or $150 for a detail, when it might not even increase the sales value, and they won't be able to enjoy the beauty of such a nice detail?

Please advise.

How true... most of our "high end" clients really NEGOTIATE the prices even if they're below fair... while most middle class, working people just appreciates your service and tips well.

Hey KC I bait my advertisments all the time. You have to remember that if and when you advertise for a new customer you have to make it worth their while to spend their hard earned money with you. This bait makes them call right away. I always limit it to the first 25 customers who book an appointment receive the offer. Always add certain restrictions apply. This will cover your butt for anything that may arise. Shine & Dine is a great slogan of mine. Another tatic that I am working on now is{ Super size or Super star} I will be refering to a large car wash with kids doing the detailing or Myself a 30 year veteran in the field who is known nationally for his passion and work.

I've never had that problem, in fact, a couple of my rich customers when I first started out told me I wasn't charging enough!

Most of my upper end customers tip every week and real well at Christmas. So do those in the reality the rest of us live in.

doctors, dentists and lawyers are excellent peeps to target. They show off their shiny car and you get some phone calls :)

Hmmm.. guess calling people who are selling cars DOES WORK..

Called a guy selling a 2001 Jaguar XKR... turns out, the guy ALSO has a Cadillac Escalade, Suburban, BMW 745Li, and an S430.. wants them ALL FULLY DETAILED...

Did the Jaguar yesterday...

Cadillac today..

I am in the Yellow Pages. 6% of my business is from the phone book, the other 94% is repeat and referral.
