Any suggestions for this regimen?

Hi,

I've been lurking here for the past couple of days and decided to follow all of the advice I've been reading. I already detailed my gf's car with meguiar's paint cleaner, #7, and #26 but since I live long distance now I can only detail it maybe every 3-6 months. So I decided on a sealant instead of carnuba.



The car is a 2003 accord so the paint condition is really good.



How does this look.



commercial car wash, P21S GEPC, wipe down with Zaino Z6, apply Z2 with ZFX.



No Dawn wash.

Also which CMA PC pad would be the best to apply the GEPC.

If you can't hand wash the car then do a good QD job to clean areas the car wash missed. Make sure you get the basic wash, no waxes or other goo.



You might want to consider claying the car prior to polishing. Put your hand in a baggie and rub the paint lightly. If you feel or hear roughness then the car needs claying.



Use the white pad with the GEPC.
 
I hope it is not the one with flaps and brushes. That gonna stratch your car. It's a 2002, wash it by hand and be careful to make sure you don't scratch the car. The washers usually you drive through are going to make some marks. It's a 2002, so like bret said, hand in baggy, and if rough when feeling surface, clay the car, to make sure you get the best use out of the sealant. Even if you drive it through or power wash at some place you have to drive it home on the roads. You might get some bugs or mudd on the side of the panels. Good luck on that part of the question.

Thanks for the help. I live in Los Angeles, so almost all the car washes are hand and the roads are clean. I live in an apartment so washing myself will be too hard. The landlord goes crazy over people using water.

You know the one I am talking about. Put the quarters in the machine and twist the knob and pick a setting and hold the power sprayer. Heres a plan for you.





Bring a bucket and car wash soap along with a wash mitt.

Put some quarters in $1.25 or whatever the minimum. Rinse the car really well ( let time run out) and this will be plenty of time to get a GREAT rinse. Then if they have a faucet or running water, put car wash soap in bucket and fill with water. Then go back to the bay and wash your entire car with the mitt somewhat fast to make sure the soap does not dry. ( you can even use the horsehair scrubber tool on the side wall for the wheels ) This way you will get a quality wash as you would at home if done right. Then you put another $1.25 in and rinse the vehicle and this again, will be plenty of time to get every bit of soap off the car from the washing with the mitt and bucket. If they don't have running water, put the soap in the bucket first and set aside. Then rinse the car and after you rinse well, fill the bucket with the sprayer the last couple of seconds remaining on the timer and proceed to wash the car as above. Then you can bring a towel and dry your car before driving off. Those sprayer timers alone do not get the car clean and when you dry your car it scratches. They are actually worthless by themselves ( without the above method) unless you did some muddy offroading before and got the main dirt off. Also, not only do you get a quality wash you get to watch the other people just use the sprayer and all those pre-soaks and other BS to find at the end it did not get the last layer of dirt off the car and they spent more money. All you needed was the RINSE setting,less than 3 dollars and your own supplies. I would try to find a time of day that a whole bunch of people are not at those places though, or you might get some dirty looks for taking too long. LOL Go at like 10 oclockam or 3 oclockpm. This does work and I have done this during certain water restrictions in our area.



So for those like moolman and those that have Water Restrictions this is the way to wash your car! With a little practice you will get so fast and good that you will have done a quality job with a little pocket change at hand.

You should look into using QEW for washing at your apartment. You will only need a gallon of water total. That ought to shut your landlord up. :)

There are some here who think GEPC will compromise the bonding and or longevity of Z2.

I am currently conducting a teat to see. I think Paco is too.

I have three coats of Z2 on my M5 with no gepc or equivelent.

I applied IHG to 1/2 of my wifes Z3 then applied Z2 over the entire car. I did this yesterday and I'll post the result.

Well, I guess I will be another guinea pig to see if Zaino will bond with GEPC applied to it. I'm not doing the Dawn wash because I don't feel comfortable with it. But the true reason is because it's a pain to wash the car and I'm rather lazy at times. haha..
