Im wet-sanding my daily driver this weekend. This is the first time I have ever wet-sanded.

I am using Meguiars uni-grit 2500, and 3000.

Afterwards I use the KB method with

Orange/Grey-Meguiars 105

White/grey-Meguiars 205

NXT wax

The car is a 2002 Electric Blue Acura TL Type -S.

There's some serious orange peel that I need to get rid of, and its all over the place. Any suggestions before doing it? Tips?

Thanks for your time in advance.

Is it factory paint? If so, I thought that Acura clear is both thin and soft

I wouldn't wetsand a daily driver..it's hard enough to keep from thinning the clearcoat too much over time. I'd at least take some ETG readings, you might be surprised how little paint is on there.

Sorry to be a wet blanket...

As accumulator said, is this your factory cc or was there a respray?

I would much rather live with some orange peel than have to pay 5000+ for a new paintjob.

And even if it was a respray I would still be very careful. I would never venture out wetsanding an entire car without a ptg. You said it was your DD not a garage queen.

I would much rather have a swirl free car with some orange peel than a failing CC with no orange peel.

its not respray... would using 3000 grit be too risky in removing too much CC on an OEM paint job?

I don't think anybody can really answer that, there are just too many variables.

For every person like bufferbarry who wetsands all the time, you have somebody else like me who frets about over-thinning the clear even with just regular polishing.

If I thought it was a good idea I'd take the orangepeel out of our Audis, but I'd rather live with factory-quality paint than risk having to repaint them. And I'd bet that those cars could better stand a wetsanding than most (thick, hard, durable paint on the Audis).

Remember that you can only take off roughly half-a-mil (0.0005") before precipitating cc failure.
