any products that will *brighten* red cars?

the car is ford's 'rio red'- not as bright as 'torch' red, have been told that alot of products darken the appearance of colors..:shrug:



car has no oxidation, next to no swirling/spider marks..

this is what im considering:



will be applying by hand, will eventually get a PC...





you guys figure i'll get durable protection from this combo?



1)Menzerna IP

2)Menzerna FPII Final Polish *OR* PO87MF ?? :nixweiss

3)ClearKote Vanilla Moose (Hand Glaze)

4)ClearKote Carnuaba Moose Wax and/or S100



anything i should add or replace?



have been told that S100 doesnt attract dust as much as other waxes...

I probably would not use IP as that is for swrils and scratch removal and you claim that the car does not have any. I probably would also skip FPII because if your car is that clean the VM has enough power to clean up minor marring and glosses up the paint real nice. The stregnth of abrassiveness between FP, PO87, and VM is not that much of a difference for it to be worth using both especially by hand. Carnuba Moose is know to darken the paint, so you might just want to use S100 instead. I have a red car and love how S100 looks.
 
If you want to brighten the paint stay away from carnauba waxes. I would start with the FPII then go to RMG or VM and seal with a sealant like EX-P, UPP, or the new DP Premium Surface Shield. The sealants I listed do not have a problem bonding over the CK glazes and require about 1 hour to cure. The shine and reflections iwll be increased without darkening the paint like many carnauba baased products do.
 
S100/P21S will NOT darken the Red. It also is not that durable for a daily driver. If you can still find some, Meguiars #16 professional paste wax will not darken either and is fairly durable.
 
We did a friends rio red Mustang which had a pinkish haze to it specially the urathane bumpers as it's parked outside for many years. It came out a great deep rich red. After buffing with Meg's #83 to get rid of the oxidation and swirls which you don't need to do, he did Meg's #7 followed by their NXT Tech Wax. The #7 gives he shine some depth that we don't get with tech wax alone.
 
hey guys, ive fdecided to go ahead and get a PC, found a 6" 7336sp at the local Lowes...



wondering if your advice would change at all now that im going the PC route...







with the info ive gotten, im now thinking something along the lines of:



wash, clay, then wash again..



1) CK VM

2)PB Natty's paste OR s100??

3) FMJ (better than UPP?)

4) S100

almost seems too simple- but this is what ive ended up with so far :shrug:



i like the idea of using different products, peace of mind knowing i didnt half *** anything....





for the OPTIMUM is there anything i could add to this list?
 
Pick either s100 or Natty's but both is a waste, Natty's if you want a warm look and s100 if you want shine. FMJ is getting great writeups, I haven't heard anyone who has said it's not great. I'm not sure if any sealant will work good with VM, maybe just try one of the waxes and VM, nless you want durabilty for some reason. If you detail your car every month or so I would keep it simple. Either that or just order FMJ by itself, just put it over FPII. If you want the ultimate in durabilty and shine stick with Z2Pro.

dont mind doing a quick hand wax each month, but dont want to have to break out PC more than every 3-4 months or so....



to brighten the red, you guys leaning more towards nattys or s100???



not sure if warm suggests a darker appearance :shrug

Then add a coat of wax every time you wash for the next 3 washes, until you get 4 layers. I found that that was the point of severely diminshing returns with S100, not sure about Natty's.



Oh yeah, speaking of Optimum, try using Optimum Spray wax as your weekly QD. Its worth the price of admission. I also use it as a lubricant to remove waxes, and I feel it adds a little "something", but then again I'm a little crazy too :).



Youve taken a big step towards the optimum by using Menzerna products too, I've gotta give their polishes a big :xyxthumbs.

with your response i feel like im FINALLY almost there!





three days ago i knew next to nothing beyond what was on the shelf at my local auto parts store...



after a good 12+ hours of digging i think im getting closer to lining up my game plan....



so i need at least one coat of wax before sealing, but once sealed i can layer up to four coats of wax (by hand or PC?)



*sigh of relief*



now i just need to find a place that carries all this stuff, and decide where to get my pads...

Sounds like you have your products picked out. Remember to get a set of pads and a backing plate. You need a different pad for each product as PC's tend to suck in product so you shouldn't mix pads. I've been happy with Lake Country and Meg's pads, both work well. Also get a dozen or so MF towels, you'll need to switch them out frequently so as not to mix products. I use the PC to apply wax, it seems to do a nice even job of applying product and works it in. I remove it by hand but some like to put a new dry pad with an MF bonnet to remove wax.
 
Skip the IP, It may actualy take away some of the gloss, requiring a good FPII session. Don't know about FMJ setting up properly on VM. I would FPII then FMJ. I also like #26 on red, this may work better on top of VM
 
Go to Poorboysworls and look at MY SC430. This was done with EX (pure sealant) and Nattys wax. Nattys I found is much more clear and brighter than Souveran that imparts a deeper tone.



Yes, a good finish polish with Menzerna FPII or Poorboys Pro polish or any fine finish polish with a finish pad will bring the shine up, which is what you want before finishing with a sealant/wax.



If you want a red that is very reflective, less deep, Zaino is very clear and show off a very high shine. Some refer it to "plastic wrap" on a finish. Problem with Zaino as most know is the high prep work to get the finish absolutly perfect and free of any oils.



For less money and time, EX, FMJ, or any pure sealant will do quite well. Top off with a clear wax and now it will look wet as hell!

It's been my experience with VM that it darkens paint. :nixweiss Has anyone actually noticed VM to brighten paint? :think:
