Any Preference On Clay?

If clay is used aggressively enough to remove wax then *IMO* it's being misused.

Why remove the wax anyhow? What about just rewaxing without doing that (I know, !Autopian Heresy! but it works OK for me same as it did before there *was* clay)?

Or clay *very* gently, just enough to "clay the LSP clean". For that I LOVE Sonus SFX, which I use with their Glyde lube.

If I did want to remove the current LSP, I'd either wash with something like AutoInt's "A" or use a Paint Cleaner/AIO.

So, I'm not an expert or a pro and was/am curious myself as to what the difference/s between clay is/are....
I still don't know what's the difference between the clays and currently am using Mothers due to price and being a hobbyist right now.

IME the Mother's is a good "medium" clay. There are more gentle ones like the Sonus SFX and some that (while not being "overspray clays") are much more aggressive.

Thanks. I haven't been able to find anything as far as what grade the Mothers would be classified as. Granted, I haven't looked very hard either. :).

I've been eying Sonus as a replacement and will now have to look into the Poorboy's clay. Hard to beat clay, detailer, and a towel for $12.99 though.

I've got the sponges, towels etc.

Haven't used em. I just keep grabbing what I know will do the job well.

Unless it's the wrong clay ;)

For ultra-gentle work I dunno if anything can compare to the Sonus.

True, true. I did some research before I bought it and didn't see anything bad about it. The cars it was bought for I'm pretty sure had never been clayed.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm clay

My friends wife was bored while we were doing her car.....

OK, so maybe I am out-of-touch with the latest in detailing methods and products, but I still use blue Clay Magic to clean paint surfaces. I bought a 200 gram bar some time ago and just need to use it up. It does work well in removing embedded tar splatter on tailgates/rear door hatches and bug guts from the front fascias. I do not know if I can accept the nanoskin towels, BUT it seems like many pro detailers are migrating to it to save time.

From what I hear, nobody's ever gone wrong with the ClayMagic Blue. Heh heh, not broke don't fix.

If it really needs decontaminated, I'd do a chemical decontamination with ValuGard's ABC system.

Not too worried about one of them. It's a damaged old Escape daily driver. It is my test subject for most things. Never used a clay before, Mothers was my test/practice.

However, the one I am worried about is the one I was talking about and I'll have to look into the ValuGard. Haven't hear of it before, thanks.
