any PC users use wool pads for cutting?

i really dont know much about wool pads...but would anyone have a link to a store with a selection of them to work with my PC w/ a 5" backing plate??



i know they come in different variants like foam pads.....i just want to see what is out there.

if a cutting foam pad, plus a compound on the pc doesnt remove defects, I would just switch to a rotary.

I've used the edge 2000 6 inch pads in thier heavy cut wool on a PC. it's better with rotary but you can use it with a PC

I personally don't use a wool pad with either a PC or rotary because it can be more trouble than it's worth. Used with a PC or rotary it could possibly induce more swirls. I will stick with foam pads. With tougher jobs, I usually use first a polishing pad with a rotary and a polish or compound. With stubborn blemishes it usually requires a cutting pad and either a polish or compound. Always start with the least aggressive approach. But in the right hands a wool pad with a rotary can do wonders to medium to heavier swirls and also wet sand marks.

Yeah, I found wool pads on the PC to be only slightly more aggressive cut-wise than a foam cutting pad, but they left far more micromarring. I'd stick with foam on a PC too. IMO a 4" foam cutting pad will do a lot better job than a 5-6" wool pad *on that tool*.

I used the wool pad once and it left all kinds of marks in the paint I had to remove with the foam pads. However, I know a lot of guys who use the wool pads at a low speed for removing the lsp.

Bob is right, youre going to ahve to add another step in your process to remove the marring left from the wool pad. This wouldnt be bad if a wool pad was a lot more aggressive then a foam heavy cut pad, but my experiences is that it is only marginally heavier of a cut that isnt justified by its results.
