Any one seen the movie "BEOWOLF"?

New Normal
Since we saved so much money by not attending any "Black Friday" sales this season, my wife and I decided to travel to Austin, Tx. to see the movie "Beowolf".

I know that I was supposed to read this poem in high school but I also know that it was written in verbage that bored me to tears so consequently I know little of the story. We are attending because it is to be shown in 3D. It is also filmed in a style that made "The 300" a very compelling movie to watch. My wife read me the synopsis of the story using the Cliff Notes website, but that did not do anything for me. If the movie is spoken in "YE OLDE ENGLISH" style I am sure that this will be just an expensive trip to get a good nap.

I was just wondering if anyone had viewed this movie or had plans to attend this movie? I will report back on the movie when we get back from Austin this afternoon.

I know nothing about movies in general.
I know nothing about Beowolf.
I do know a little something about wives.
Don't analyze, just answer "Yes Dear, I would love to take you to see this movie."
Now, you need to be the actor. Love it or hate it, she needs to think you couldn't have enjoyed yourself more. (In public.)
Trust me, it works. :D

Your preaching to the choir here,Charles. Why else do you think we are going to this movie.

I re-read my post and I see where I mite have lead you astray. It should not have read "My wife and I decided " it really should have read "MY WIFE decided".

Believe me, I have "Yes Dear" down pat. LOL!!

So what did you think of the movie? My teenage son wants to see it and I like movies of this genre, but the whole 3D thing turns me off. Also the cartoonish effect of filming is not my favorite. The reviews I've read are not too complementary. However, it has to be better than Dragon Wars! Not to high-jack this thread, but I just got home from taking the teenage boy to the dollar movie to see Dragon Wars. It is so bad! The acting is terrible and the story is absurd. It is a real stinker of a movie.

Does this mean you wouldn't recommend Dragon Wars? :D
Don't you sometimes wonder how:
1. They conned someone into putting up the money for the filming.
2. Why no one can see how bad it is during the filming.
3. How they can release it after they have seen the finished product.

I don't think I'm going to see the movie just on the fact that I don't think a film will do the story any justice. I read the book in high school and absolutely loved it. So much that it's been my favorite book since.

Go see it anyway.
You probably won't even see a connection between the book and the movie.
Just enjoy it for the entertainment since the movie will most likely be nothing like the original story.

That's the part that makes me angry. The 13th Warrior was based off of Beowulf, but strayed from the story line and changed the name. If they call it Beowulf, it should be as much like the book as possible. I know directors and writers have to take certain liberties to make it more enjoyable for film, but they shouldn't stray too much.

Hello everyone!! I made it back from the movie. It was in 3D and I enjoyed that aspect of the movie. It really made a difference in getting involved with the story. I know LD sat there isn awe thru the whole movie. At the end he said to me, "Daddy that was a real scary movie." Never once did he say he wanted to leave. All he did was eat his popcorn and drink his soda. No trips to the restroom or anything like that to divert from the movie.

I wish that I would have read the book or poem or whatever it is so I would be able to tell if they held the story line. All I know is that the animation was not a put off. I beleive it allowed for creative license which added to the movie. It certainly is not a beleiveable movie but that does nto take away from the story. I am no critic but I cetainly had a good time at the theatre. There was not a thought of sleeping or even a glance at my watch to see how much time was left.

Thirty four dollars for tickets and thiry four dollars for snacks for the movie. Plus the cost of the gas to go to the movie. Well was it worth it....maybe ...but I purchased new MFtowels the other day when I certainly did not need them either.

If you are looking for an exciting story with impressive animation check it out for yourself. I give it a B+. It held my attention and scared me a few times. Plus LD had a good time so it was worth the time to attend.
