Any mobile detailers offering carpet steaming for rooms?

How weird would it be if I decided to promote that on my web site? I've had just a couple customers in the past ask me if I do carpets inside homes. I figure since I already have the Dupray Hill Injection with the proper attachments might as well make money off of it while keeping warm in the winter doing jobs indoors :)

Have any of you guys done this before? Actually, my business card has always said "Specializing in Pressurized Steam Cleaning" at top on the front side. Thought I'd get your professional opinions first.

I've actually considered doing this myself. Haven't bit the bullet on it yet though. Also, thought about steam cleaning couches and furniture. A friend of mine paid $250 to have their 2 small couches cleaned. Guy was in and out in an hour. Not a bad gig if you can drum up some business in the slower seasons.

Cleaning carpeting and upholstery in homes is very different from automobiles, you need to understand the science of cleaning, wool, silk, rayon and other fibers, bleeding, color fastness, Ph, urine stains, etc. So I suggest before you pull out your steam machine you take some classes or it can be costly.

I actually would just offer the steam cleaning for cloth couches or carpets. I dont want to start a whole new business steaming homes. Just an extra service I would provide on carpets. I would offer it as "Carpet Sanitizing" or something along those lines.

Re-read Gina's reply above.

People ask me about this, I say no. Don't know enough about it, don't want to get away from my core business.

Definitely would educate myself prior to offering this service. I'm still not sold on doing it. Just been mulling it over. But thank you for the suggestion.

It's a huge and different business. There is money to be made with the right setup, but compared to Automotive use its a lot more specialized & demanding. Gotta read up on IICRC, Mikey'sboard, & TruckMountForum.
