Any Bowlers in the house?

Lack of oxygen up here
Ive been tearing it up lately in the Thursday night Men's League... Tonight I bowled a 687 series. The elusive 700 series is haunting me now. Ive been bowling since I was 4 years old ,but I took about 10 years off,and now im back at it.My average hovers around 195 but this year Ive dialed it in a little better. Any good bowlers out there?

I am sure you replayed it in your mind several times figuring out the "10" you left standing that kept you from stringing it out one game for the 700. I am a low 190's bowler but the other 4 guys on my team average 202,205,217, and 228. Three years ago I was a mid 160's bowler and now I won't be satisfied until I can average 200 for the year. It really helps to have some guys that know what they are doing....they have helped me immensely.

As it sits, I am a casual bowler with a 150 average. I currently throw a 16 lb. plastic ball with a conventional grip.

Thats one impressive team OutlawTitan. Is there alot of teams in your league like that ?

Take it to the next step PrinzII--->Reactive ball with a finger tip :2thumbs:

Our team has the 2nd highest team average in the league but there are about 10 teams (out of 24) that are all within just a few pins of each other. It is a pretty strong league.....I would say the overall average for the 120 bowlers is at least 180 and maybe 185. The year before last 11 different guys had 300 games and some of those guys had more than one.

I haven't been bowling in a long time, but my best score ever was 203. I got 5 strikes in a row I think. I still have the printout laying around somewhere.

And I usually just throw a straight ball. I can sometimes manage to throw a decent curve, but other times it just ruins my game and I go back to the straight throw.

Trust me, I am. I am looking at balls by Hammer and Storm. The Storm ball I am interested in is the Paradigm . The Hammer is the Vibe I would have to change my style drastically if I am throwing fingertip because I am currently a straight ball thrower and will have to learn how to throw a hook.

After that, I will have to concentrate on a new bag. The shoes are already covered. I have a pair of Dexter Jason (Jason II Shown):

The Hammer's are awesome. I threw one for years . Right now I have a Columbia U-Turn and an Ebonite Ice depending on the conditions. In "my" bowling alley, the U-Turns are hugely popular. They work good on the synthetic lanes. Good luck with your choices, you will like the difference !!

Thats awesome !! Completely different than my small town bowling experience here.

I used to bowl in leagues pretty regularly (normally average 160-165) but the last league I was in, for two seasons in a row, there were 6 of us, each our own team. The next season, 12 showed up to the league open house, the next week when the league actually started, I was the only one who showed up. Just kind of gave up after that. All the other bowling alleys are a PITA to get to.

I enjoy bowling, but I suck something fierce, and I dont go very often. How often do you guys practice?

My wife and I practice every Sunday afternoon with a few friends although it turns out to be a beer drinking adventure most of the time. So 2 times a week for me.

My gf and I want to start practicing. Her avg. is around 180 - 220 and she is anxious to kick my butt after I trounced her in a game of Scrabble.

We used to have a ten pin bowling facility in my community until a late night fire in 1989, which got a good head start and destroyed the facility.

After the fire was knocked down, there was still a heavy haze of smoke inside the structure. All you could hear were balls being rolled down the lanes and pins geting knocked over...

I rolled a perfect 300 game that night, but it was so smokey in there nobody saw it! LOL :D

I am wondering whether or not I should go down to a 15 or 14 lb ball if I am going to start throwing fingertip.

"I" wouldnt. But I know of alot of really good bowlers that dropped down to 14 lb balls. You will end up buying 3 or 4 balls anyway :LOLOL So buy different weights :grinno:

I would recommend throwing the same weight with the finger tip that you are comfortable with using now. It won't matter near as much as learning your marks to go with the amount of break you throw. I was consistently between 160-170 until I went to fingertip and then I went up 8-10 pins a year for 3 straight years. There is no way to consistently throw 2 or 3 baggers throwing the ball straight.

I would recommend getting fitted by someone that really know what they are doing and taking a couple of lessons from the same person.....that way they can adjust your ball if necessary to fit your style and pitch.
