Any Blackberry Users out there?

Hey all,

I have been with Sprint for probably close to 15 years now and my latest contract just ran out and I have been getting the nagging calls from them trying to get me on another 2 year commitment. I don't want to debate providers here, I have been with Sprint for a long time because I have been happy with them. I am really looking to take advantage of the offers they are throwing my way. The wife and I currently spend almost $90 a month on our two plans and they offered me a shared plan for $59 a month which will save us a bundle. I have been looking at a Blackberry for some time but can't decide between the two models Sprint offers. I was hoping I could get some input from current Blackberry users.

The 7130e is $119 and the 8703e is $299 but they are offering a $100 mail in rebate.

I had a Blackberry, but found it to be not very user friendly. I've since switched to a Treo and have been very happy with it.

IMO, curve 8330 or 8320 if you need WIFI.

If you make it until June the new Bold/9000 is coming out, new OS.

Blackberry is for email, if that is not your first priority I would look elsewhere. Browsing, get an IPhone.

you should check out the January 08' edition of Consumer Reports magazine (best & worst cell phone deals). if you're happy with Sprint great, but in their cell-phone service/ratings, Sprint was bottom-ranked out of all the carriers they surveyed. the carriers surveyed were Alltel, Verizon, T-Mobile (i made the switch to from Cingular/AT&T and couldn't be happier, Cingular/AT&T's claim of the fewest dropped calls is a joke), AT&T, and Sprint. the two top carriers that were neck in neck were Verizon and T-Mobile...

Alltel - one of the better providers in the three metro areas for which we had adequate survey data.

Verizon - among the better carriers this year and in our earlier surveys.

T-Mobile - another solid performer that often offers more for your money.

AT&T - home of the i-phone but trails the better carriers in almost all respects.

sprint - bottom-ranked of carriers we rate.

dont get anything in the 8700 series, they are super old. if anything get the 8300 or 8800 series.

i love my blackberry. i have the pearl. i am posting this from it right now.

are you on a wap site or just a regular html site??

You mean the Blackberry Leash as my wife calls it? I have the pearl and I hate the keyboard. We're getting the Bold (when avail) at when work and i'll switch that and then switch to the Blackberry touch screen in Q3.

We had goodlink and blackberry running at the same time and I much preferred the Palm Treo over blackberry phones. Oh well....

I will be upgrading to the Blackberry 'Thunder' I think they're calling it now. It's a touch screen similar to the iPhone. I currently have the 1st gen. Blackjack.

I've got the worldphone (8800 I think?). I like it. It's my first PDA style thing-a-ma-jiggy, but it works fine for me. I thought I would use the browser, but rarely do. mostly e-mail. I first bought the Pearl and returned it after 2 days. Everything was just way too small. I do like the looks of the new Bold. But I've got about 18 months left before I can upgrade again. :(

Oh-another reason I got rid of the Pearl - Vaja didn't make a case for it. Gotta have a Vaja case.

For my first PDA type phone, I just got the Centro from Sprint last week. Darn the keyboard is small, but I am getting used to it. It's just $99 with the 2 year plan and after $50 MIR. I also just signed up for the Sprint SERO plan. See more info here. I got the 1250 min plan for $50 a month and that includes unlimited data, pic/text messaging, ect. They also have a 500 min plan for $30.

I am going to call Verizon today or tomorrow and attempt to get out of my contract without an ETF due to the recent fees that verizon has changed on the bill. Send me a PM for ways to save $25 on your first bill if you are new to sprint.

I've had two blackberry's both but never found them to be very rugged, drop them once or twice and they would break. I switched to a Trio 6 months ago and the thing is a beast. I've dropped it 10-15 times and all it does is lightly scratch the plastic.

Get a full keyboard other than that it's all just extras that you might never use.

I keep mine in an Otterbox case/holster. It has 3 layers of protection from the clear membrance to protect the screen and prevent dust from getting into the keyboard to the plastic shell and finally the rubber skin that goes over the plastic shell.

Here is a review of the case where you can see how it goes together.

I spent months looking at every smartphone out there and to me the main advantage the Blackberry has over other smartphones is the wide variety of software that is available for it. There are packages out there for just about anything imaginable. The phone can be configured to suit just about any need.
