Another QEW thread (UK)

Theres no way you are getting a package that big and heavy through customs without them spotting it and charging VAT on it. Duty? - what duty?

Oh! btw, count me in for a gallon. but I will need it posted - thanks

I've sent an email to the manufacturer too, to see what they have to say

Ok guys, I've heard back from protectall. This stuff is best shipped in packs of 6, as that is how protectall distribute it. Whichever place we purchase from, it will come in the original packaging. Makes it easier for shipping. The guy I'm dealing with has given me a price of $24/gallon, the shipping costs however are higher than previously stated. For 1 pack of 6 gallons it will cost $182 which means at the moment we are looking at $54.33 (approx £30.78)/gallon. That is before any UK VAT or postage!

He says 1 gallon is enough for 100 to 128 (why 128 and not 130 :nixweiss) washes. He is being very helpful and wants to make sure we order the correct quantity and product to serve our needs. I am being sent some samples of 'QEW' and 'Protect All polish wax and treatment'. He thinks we may be intested in the latter.

I have asked CampingWorld to send me shipping quotes for 6 and 12 gallons. I've also asked them for the best price they can do on the QEW. Again we will have to wait and see.

I will keep posting updates as soon as I hear anything from either place.

Ok guys, I received the sample of QEW. Measured out 1oz and placed it into 1 gallon of water. Note that these are US measurments!! I actually used metric equivellant, approx 30ml in 3.8 litres.

A second bucket for rinse water, 1 WW and one cheap MF to wash with and I was all set.

After years of washing with a hosepipe and sponge (sponge = sheepskin washmit now) it was a bit daunting to be placing what was basically a damp cloth on to a dry car and then start wiping with it.

Started very carefully with the roof, windows, bonnet and gradually worked my way down the car and did the dirtiest parts last. The lower part of my car was worse than I thought, I had to go and change the rinse water, but that's no big deal. I did not rush cleaning my car as I didn't want to risk putting any marks on the car. However, the more I used it the more confident I was with it, especially on the dirty parts. Next time will not take me as long :)

I may have been wringing out the MF too much as I washed, because I still had about half the contents of the wash bucket left even though on the really dirty parts I used the MF very wet.

When it came to the wheels and tyres I used a brush and the rinse water first (the rinse water contains some QEW by now and loosens the dirt first) and then wiped them over with the MF.

Am I impressed??? Oh yes :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

I have heard nothing back from campingworld, so at the moment I will be ordering direct from Protectall. I need to know ASAP if anybody else wants any QEW ordering for them. I will place the order on 12-01-04

I tried to take some good pics, but the digicam I've got leaves the pics a bit dull :(. Anyway, top is before and bottom is after.

You're on the list, don't worry :xyxthumbs

But you know how these things go.........you get all the orders, you place the order and it turns up......then about 1hr later somebody says.......errrrrr can I have 1 too.....grrrrrrrrrr :D

What your mum's doing is preserving the paint from harmfull UV, it'll be safe under all that muck :p ;)

As the shipping is much more expensive than we thought, I will take 2 gallons rather than the 4 I previously requested.

Is it not worthwhile giving Camping World another shot as their shipping was much cheaper. Maybe they haven't got back to you because of the holiday.

It's possible they may get back to me, but I've checked the fedex website and I believe they quoted me incorrectly the first time. I just checked a package weight of 8lbs (camping worlds quoted shipping weight for 1 gallon) and got the price of $91.72 and 4 to 5 business days.

I know it's dissapointing after the first quote they gave me, but it's better we know the true cost now rather than later. I know we still have the unknown customs charge to bear also. I will do what I can to get us the best deal overall.

Just make sure you get the place your getting it from to package what you buy conservatively. By this I mean make sure they don't put one gallon of QEW in a box that could fit 10 gallons and have it full with packing. While it will certainly get to you safely, Fed Ex will charge you on box dimensions rather than the actual rate quoted for weight.

I was onced charged nearly £200 for a package that was meant to cost around £80 because the box that was sent could have held 33kg worth of weight, rather than the 12kg approx it actually weighed. There is no come back from this... Fed Ex will charge no matter what and won't give prior notice to doing so.

At the same time, it's not really the shippers fault in the States as they just want stuff to get to us safely and with obviously no come back........

Not trying to scare you guys, just making sure you have all bases covered and don't have to pay out alot more than may be necessary.

Cheers.

Thanks for the advice Alex. I've been told they pack them 6 to a crate, 55Lbs and 16" x 12" x 12". I've double checked all shipping prices through the websites using the info I've been given. I only hope the info is correct.......or I may finish up with a lifetimes supply!!!!

Customs charge should be just VAT on the product and shipping, plus the shippers VAT handling fee (normally £10 ish).

Look what I got :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sent Friday.....arrived today........without diverting through you know where ;)
