Another "How does this sound to you.." post

Hi all, I've been lurking, reading, and learning here for a bit, trying to gather all this info (and there is a ton!) to try and get my daily driver car looking great, it's a 2001 Acura CL-S, in Nighthawk Black Pearl. I've decided (I think) on the route I want to take and would like advice on if you think its good / bad / otherwise.

Wash

BF Clay Kit

Meg #9 w/ PC and yellow "cutting" pad

Klasse AIO x2 w/ PC and black "polish" pad

Buff w/ PC and terrycloth bonnet

Klasse SG x3 by hand w/ microfiber applicator

Buff w/ microfiber 2 towel method

1G Blitz x2 was w/ PC and white "finsih" pad

Buff out w/ microfiber bonnet

Some other addenda to the above.

For using #9, I plan on using it just where needed.

Do you think I'd be better off applying any of the products by hand?

I need to wait 24hrs between SG layers I've read, can I wash the car w/ something like Pinnacle Shampoo if it gets dirty?

I also plan on following the Klasse guide in the Hall of Fame thread.

I tried doing as much research as I could, but that said any comments / suggestions are welcome as this is a load of info to absorb, I've even started taking notes!

Thanks!

Greg

EDIT: Revised due to advice given here.

I usually do not wash the car again after #9. I just apply AIO. Make sure you let SG cure 24 hours before applying another coat. Additionally, I usually apply SG by hand. Good luck....Andrew

You also do not need to wash with after claying if you are going to polish aftwerwards. Even if you want to wash it, I would use carsoap and not Dawn. Washing with Dawn twice is overkill. In fact, washing with Dawn isn't really necessary with the Klasses system, as AIO is a cleaner/prep for SG. I never Dawn wash. See my sig. :D

Almost forgot to comment on your other questions.

I usually do AIO by hand, but many here have used AIO by PC with great success. I find that I don't really need the PC when I have already polished (#9, DACP, etc.). I would definitely apply SG by hand, as a lot of product would be wasted with a PC foam pad. I would also do all the product removed by hand with a good quality MF. It'll be faster and easier on our wrists and hands after all that polishing. With all the products you are using, one wipe should be all you need to remove it, as long as you remember the thinner is better rule.

2wheeler is going to get you, he does not like Dawn. Using SG with a PC is a waste of product and I am not sure the product would work that way. I believe that SG needs a drying time before buffing and should be applied by hand. I like to apply SG in the evening and then the next morning I remove SG using the two towel method. Which is one damp mf followed by a dry mf. This is very easy just wipe with the damp and then wipe the dampness off. From intel 486 I learned that the longer I let SG dry the eaiser it is to use. For the pros this is not always possible.

Learn to evaluate the paint after each step to determine what needs to be done next. BTW #9 is very mild which is where you should start but if #9 does not remove your scratches then you need to have something like DACP available.

My process is:

1.wash with dawn

2.clay with mothers using the QD method

3.Decide if polish is needed

4.Decide then if I need a rewash

5.AIO with PC: on a good paint surface usually one AIO is needed especially if you polished.

6. SG by hand using mf applicator.

7. buff the SG the next morning using the two towel method.

note: I often wait a week between layers of SG. This works well for me. On week ends after a complete detail I like to wash and add SG for about three weeks. Its more fun that way and though I have no proof I believe I have fewer problems and the protection last longer.

good luck and have fun!

I see 2wheeler posted while I was still thinking. Your fast 2wheeler.

:D I don't really have anything against Dawn. I think for certain applications, like Z, it has a place. I just figured that, why put dishsoap all over the trim and rubber seals (DavidB mentions this in one of his posts) which might dry out the rubber and vinyl, when I am going to be using a system which incorporates a cleaner like AIO.

Also, if claying and polishing is involved, I really don't know what Dawn adds. If you can't get it off with clay or DACP, you're sure not going to get it off with Dawn! :p

Since I almost never wax the entire car at once, I agree. I don't think it really makes any difference if you're going to be polishing or AIOing. I've never used it.
