I was being cheap and didn't buy the Z-6 since I just ordered a gallon of FI, so I was wondering if the ingredients in FI, will prevent proper bonding of additional layers of Z5/Z2.

BTW, When I do get my shipment of Zaino in ( Friday ), I plan go crazy with Layering, is it possible to over do it? I remember reading somewhere 3 coats of Z5/Z2 is as clear and deep as its gonna get.

I inquired about the use of different QD's in the past. All answers including Sal's stated that Z6 is to be used between coats of Z2/Z5 or no QD at all. In other words the use of FI is okay between washes but not as a substitute for Z6 as a pre-layering prep. If you have a gallon of FI use it between washes and buy some Z6 for Z2/Z5 applications. Z6 is not expensive and if used only for layering will last a long time.

Your question about multiply layers.. I continue to layer my "Garage Queen" and the results seems to improve with each application. Is this improvement measureable or real? I do not know. Nevertheless, Zaino is so much fun and easy to apply and remove that just the act of detailing gives me gratification without the pain.

:bounce

Someone had posted before that FI is a special formulation for paint shops that will not cause issues with bonding.

I agree that FI will not cause bonding issues but it is an abrasive and would not be the thing to use between layers of any wax or sealant.

FI will "remove" the previous layers of Zaino. So instead of adding additional layers of Zaino over Zaino you will just be putting down one fresh coat.

are you thinking of finesse it or final inspection?

Anyhow, I agree with BLCKZ28....use the FI if you like between washes but not between layers of zaino. Z6 really works with the zaino system, and for optimal results I would get some.

Using ZFX, you can apply 3 coats of at time, but there is no limit to how many you apply. The shine will get deeper and deeper, and slicker to a point. I would say 5-10 coats will start to experience diminishing returns. There are guys with 100-300 coats of zaino on their car.......this is one of them.......

Are we talking Final Inspection or Finesse It. Final Inspection is in no way abrasive. Unless they changed the formula recently. :)

I was thinking he meant Finesse It. That's why I thought iforcev8 was nuts!:p

I'll go away now. (embarassed)

Its Ok brad we all forget the abbrevations once in a while or have brain farts.

we will still respect your Jag in the morning!!:D

He is nuts!...just not in the way you first thought! hehe (j/k)

Brad, you're the reigning leader here. So I'm with you, Iforce is probably nuts anyway. Hehe!

Iforce, I also don't use the Zaino quick detailer much. I prefer to use One Grand Show Off or Eiman Fabrik Clear Pearl as my daily or regular quick detailers. If you have Final Inspection and like it then stick with it. But just don't use it right before you're going to apply additional layers of a Zaino product such as Z-2 or Z-5. Laters

It <em class='bbc'>is[/i] possible to "overload" with coats of Z under certain rare circumstances. I have observed this in my somewhat controlled panel test. As discussed in the threads on "smeariness," you can get excess, unbonded Z that "smears around." This is not a big deal and will go away with a Z7 wash or with time.

Here are factors that will help build solid coats:

1. Use ZFX from day one
2. Use thin coats, only
3. Use Z6 between coats
4. Beyond drying time, allow time for coats to fully cure before laying down another set of coats. I allow a week, and I live in a warm, dry climate (Los Angeles).

In spite of the above, at a certain point, if the car is a garage queen, the car is going to need to be exposed to the elements, wind and sun, according to Sal, to create a surface that new coats will bond to. If you kept on trying to layer a garage queen (and my test panel is the ultimate garage queen - heck, its a "clean, air conditioned house" queen) at a certain point you have a Zaino surface that is so smooth and slick that it is difficult for new coats to adhere to the surface (not such a bad situation, though -- smoothness and slickness is one of the things we are aiming for). I have directly observed what Sal is talking about on my test panel. Using ZFX from day one lessens the need for exposure.

I don't think this is a real world problem. You only run into it if you apply repeditive coats frequently, and then usually only if the car is a garage queen or your coats were too thick. And, if you do run into the problem, a Z7 wash followed by a week or two of time will allow you to start laying again, particularly if the car is getting outside.

I am going to use Zaino for the first time this spring.

I know I will ZFX with Z-5 first, after the car (1999 corolla with 60L + miles on it.)

After the 3 coats of Z-5 I am going to apply that day, can I use the Z-1 then Z-2/Z5 when I have time to let the Z dry on the finish?

or

should I just cancel the Z-1 from my order and use ZFX Z2/Z5 exclusively?

I will of course use Z-6/Z-7, and use the Z-16.

Expect before, during, and after pics this March/April (whenever I get around to detailing this car inside and out), because the owner of the car will let me use her digi cam.

This is what I have planned for the car

1. Wash with Meguiars GC

2. Clay with Meguiars overspray clay with Meguiars QD as lube.

3. 3M Finesse It II with PC

4. Pinnacle PCL if necessary with PC

5. Dawn Wash

6. Zaino Z-7

7. ZFX and Z-5 (3 coats, Z-6 between coats)

8. Wait a week, then ZFX Z-2 (3 coats and Z-6 between coats)

Is the dawn wash necessary, can I just Z-7 then ZFX away??

Gosh I answered one of my questions, bye bye Z-1, I will stick with ZFX.

Thanks,

Jason

You can skip buying the Z1.

Since you are using 3M Finesse It II and/or Pinnacle PCL you should wash off the oils that these products leave behind with Dawn.

You are smart to have included washing with Z7 after Dawning the car. Many would say, "Why Z7- heck, you just washed the car with a powerful detergent." The answer is that the Z7 will help remove any detergent film -- Sal has said this and I have observed it -- Dawn can leave a film behind.

The only question I have is where the claying should occure in the sequence.

Clay while after washing with either soap and then use the soap again on a clean surface before you dry....do not use the Mothers clay.yucky mess will follow if you use soap as lube

Hey guys, here is another ticket for me on the Big Kahuna contest!

Hey everyone!
I got a chance to detail another GPW Acura NSX. I love these cars and I love working on them. This one wasn't as bad as the first one. It only needed a 1 step polish, the Honda clear coat is real soft and was easily corrected with Meguiars M205 and a LC tangerine pad.

But lets get this thing started and I will explain a little more as we go through.

This is the car the car when I arrived.

DSC_1201.jpg

I began by spraying the wheels down with some Chemical guys diablo wheel gel. (this wheel cleaner is OK? I bought it because of its pH balanced cleaning abilities and how safe it is on all type of wheels) After I finish off this gallon i probably wont be buying any more.

It's always important to strip off any old wax's and sealants just to make sure you are correcting the tru paint surface and not the wax. It can make a correction job VERY difficult to correct when you have layers and layers of wax on the surface. I use DAWN ultra concentrate to help with this.

This is the first time I get to try out my new Small Karcher pressure washer. So far this thing is awesome! very small and compact and mobile. Lets just hope it doesn't crap out on me for a while.

I used it along with the Karcher Foam gun, I used the DAWN for soap.

DSC_1204.jpg

I let the Foam dwell for a little bit letting it pull all of the dirt off whille it runs down. the less you have to wipe on the car with dirt the less scratches you will have.

Once the foam has done it's job. I used a Bucket w/ a grit gaurd and a 100% sheep skin mitt to wash with.

DSC_1205.jpg

Then rinsed.......

DSC_1206.jpg

while washing the car, the Diablo wheel gel has been dwelling and it is time to scrub the wheels. I used various brushes to do this.

So After drying off the car, I pulled it into the garage and one cool thing about this customer is that he had a lift! I was pretty excited that I didn't have to be bent over for the next 8 hours.

Next I began taping off all of the plastic moldings.

DSC_1213.jpg

Then I clayed the car using some Show room shine and Blue Clay magic claybar.

So before choosing my final combo, I tried out a couple of different combinations.

I ended up choosing a Lake country Hydrotech Tang pad with Meguiars M205 polish. Since the Honda clear coat it soft enough. I reached the amount of correction I was shooting for.

I love having a car at my height. it makes the job so much easier.

DSC_1246.jpg

Next I polished all of the lips of the wheels and the exhaust tips

Then I lowered the car to finish polishing the roof.

As I was finishing up on the NSX, the other White NSX that I done a Full correction to, showed up to get the oil changed. So we swapped out cars and I finished the sealant stage over to the side.

What a cool sight huh?

So I applied some Black Fire Wet diamond sealant to the car via Flex 3401 and LC blue finishing pad.

After it cured I then wiped it off. I love how easy this stuff wipes off. after that many hours of hard work, no one wants to fight wax to be removed.

Now for some sun shots and wet shots.
