Another Cadillac Deville - no 56k

GregCavi

Pinnacle Detailing Owner
Hello everyone! I set out again for rochester to do another cadillac deville. Today I was armed with the big guns, a new compound. I brought hi temps extreme cut compound, it says it can remove 800 grit sanding marks, I beleive it. The compound ate the swirls. More to come in the form of a review.

Final Process:

Qew w/ bugsprayer presoak
Clay
HI temp extreme cut compound + optimum polish 2" lines each via LC VC 7.5" orange light cut pad.
Menzerna FPII via LC VC 7.5" Black Finishing pad
OCW x2

Tires and Wells - Hyper dressing 2:1
Wheels #425
Windows #425

ENJOY!

Excuse the dried clay lube

Really nice work again, Greg! :bigups
The owner has got to be thrilled with what you're doing to his fleet!! :)

Thats some pretty nice work on some badly swirled cars.
Greg, now that you got them that way are you going to be the one maintaing them on a somewhat regular basis

Sadly no. I saw the cadi I did just last week yesterday. I was pretty shocked to see some swirls on it again. I will be working with the "detailers" there to improve there techniques..

Greg

How could they have loused it up in a week?

I will take it that you will be well compensated for your "training".
Considering that it will be essentially taking money "out" of your pocket.

The Deville looks really good, even better than the caddy from last week.

As to the other caddy being marred again, I think the caddy probably has been washed 3-5 times since being detailed, as no one want to be picked in a dirty car. With that many washes in a short period coupled with poor technique, lack of two bucket method or foam gun, who knows what kind of chemicals, towels/mitts/brush, time for wash, and cleanliness of car wash solution bucket. I have never been to this place but, believe these could be contributing factors to the marring.

could they swirl it up in a week? Yes, and they have. I noticed the other cadi's I did were already swirled up again...

For training we will cover how to properlly wash the vehicles without ruining the finish, wheel care, and just general maintenece. I wont cover anything along the lines of buffing, waxing etc.

Yup! The owner and I chat alot when he comes in becuase we both have a passion for cars. He said the guys at the shop will dry a wheel and then dry the paint, etc, scrub the paint with the mitt. So along with your list of things they most likely do, they also have no passion for detailing, its just a job.

Sure, it just would have taken a LOOONG time. I spent 6 hours on this one. With a pc I thnk you would have spent well over 10-12 hours to acheive the same results. The compound can be used via pc, as I did it today on a couple tight spots, it just takes a couple passes, but really just doesnt work as well via pc.

Since this the previous caddy took 9 hours and this one took 6 hours, what do you contribute the time difference to?

Familarity with the vehicle size, shape and paint?
Different compound, products or process?
Less experimentation with process?
A variance in overall condition of the paint?

Eric

Im sure being used to the vehicle made it go faster but I can say with pretty good confidence that the new compound made the detail leaps and bounds quicker. I was having to use wool and cutting pads and multiple passes on the previous car, I rarely made over 1 pass with this car.
