Angry Detailer....

Really makes me angry because he has no idea that it's NOT easy work detailling cars

I couldn't agree more. I finally started to do more than just a car wash every week or so just this week while trying to remove some scratches. I never knew polishing/waxing could be so rewarding! But, I did stop many many times to try to find a detailer to come and do it for me because it was just too much with the scratches and everything. I called 3 local detailers, 2 no answers, 1 never showed up, so I was kinda forced to get it done myself. But man! This is hard work, you're a good person -- next time just run your friends car through a car wash, I think it will be more appreciated. ;)

First...your friend sux! IMO~!

Second, this should teach YOU a valuable lesson...education of the client (in this case friend) is as important as the detail itself...EXAMPLE...I recently did a car for a client that wasn't washed/taken care of for a while. It was cover with bird droppings that etched ito the clear. Bugs that 'ate' into the front bumper. I explained to him the problems of leaving bird droppings on a vehicle's finished...showed some pictures...even upsold him on wet sanding the surfaces involved! He even paid for repainting the bumpers (yes, they were that bad!) In the long run, my 1/2 hour of going over the car with him avoided a problem like the one you described! How do I know this? Because his wife came with him latter, and he explain everything I said to her...even though you could tell she thought that everything was just should have been fixed with just a wash!!!

This is exactly the reason that I tell friends that I won't detail their cars . . . although I'll be happy to help them detail their own vehicles, if they like.

When they are involved, you get:

- time together with friends

- a chance to convey some basic knowledge on car care (they maintain it better afterwards)

- they get a greater understanding of why maintaining a car is easier than restoring it

- plenty of ice-cold golden beverage when the job is done

I dont detail mate's cars, unless as its a reduced fee, they stay and help, that way they get to see everything and why it costs and takes so long.... tip!

It doesn't surprise me that someone from a dealership gave him that advice. Seeing what they role out to customers, I would expect nothing less. Good question...if it was just a wash and wax, why didn't he take it somewhere and have it done for $30...plenty of places will do it for that. As someone else suggested....show him what is involved. Show him the dirty clay...He is obviously someone that won't appreciate how much time is involved. If he cared to start off with, the car would have been kept clean rather than not washing it for over a year.

A $400.00 bottle of wine on a sunset evening with a beautiful woman, priceless

High End Detailing goes great with that $400.00 wine where you appreciate the finer things

A 24 pack of beer shooting the bull /w my friends but I would not give them a $400.00 bottle wine to drink because if I did they won’t do reach rounds :getdown .
