And so it begins...

Hi all! I'm not a frequest poster although I do lurk my brains out, and I've gained some outstanding info from you all that have made my car here the shiniest around!

As some of you may know, I had a couple of guys come out to my house this summer to clay my car and apply Klasse AIO and SG. After seeing how it's done (I wanted to watch someone before starting on it myself) I've decided that it's time I can do this on my own. Now for the interesting part...

I'll be purchasing a PC probably within the next 2 weeks. I want to prep my car for the winter. Last year's winter here in CT was HORRIBLE!

I'm greatly interesting in reducing the amount of orange peel in the paint as well as getting out the very few spider web scratches that I have. I know that AIO and SG will take care of this problem SOMEWHAT, but what I'm most interested in is leveling off the peel.

Now my question...what products should I used for this process? And more specifically, what pads will I need with the PC to complete this? is SG applied with the PC, or is that more of a manual application? In summary, just what product to use for the scratches/leveling and which pads as well :D Thanks!!!

:welcome to Autopia

The PC can be purchased via Coastal tools: PC

Pads: Pads for PC

Polishes: Polishes for use

There are so many sites to obtain what you need.

Klasse can be done by hand or PC depending on what needs to be accomplished. Mostly, it's done by hand.

For removing swirls: DACP and a cutting pad.

Polish after: Megs SFP or #9 or 3M PIII-MG and white polish pad.

Further fine polishing: Megs Hand Polish and grey finish pad.

Prior to any polishing, wash your car, clay it, wash again to remove any clay/debris contaminants, then being polishing.

Once all polsihing is done, I wash the finish once more to remove oils left from polish. This can be done with a Dawn wash. Then, it's off to apply the Klasse AIO, then Klasse SG. Further info on Klasse, look to Jngrbrdman has he's the Klasse "King" when it comes to this product.

Obtain a good QD such as Megs FD (detailer line) or FI if you cannot get FD.

Obtain some MF towels from Pakshak and at least one Autopia "CBT" towel and or DFTowel for best finish wipe and QD work.

Nice to see another CT Autopian! :wavey

Deanski, thanks for the info!!

After the DAPC, would I need to polish again using SFP or 3M? Could you just jump into the Klasse process? Thanks again! (not sure what the SFP would do, no experience/knowledge with these types of products.

Thanks!!

DACP is both a cleaner & polish. However, it can leave a slight haze after use with a cutting pad. When you use it, use it sparingly and work a small section at a time. Polish it till it breaks down to a powder, then wipe off. If it's difficult to wipe off, you used too much. Go over the area with some Megs SFP by hand to remove the build-up or you may end up marring the finish if you wipe too hard.

The SFP or #9 SMR will enhance the level of shine and remove any remaining light swirls or marring from DACP and all the haze.

Once the SFP/#9 is polished out, remove that by hand as well.

It all depends on how much you want to do to get that mirror effect. Following up with even a finer polish will bring it to mirror look. I've used Megs Hand Polish or Menzerna Final Polish for this and used a Grey Finish pad as I wanted the polish, not the pad to burnish the finish to a high gloss. See my results in my sig below "MY SC430".

Wash, apply Klasse and if you want, some top Klasse with a wax to impart a more deeper/wetter look.

Deanski

vaca222 - Some people need an additional polish step after the DACP, others don't. As Deanski says, there are different choices. *I* find that PI-III MG (pn 05937) works well before AIO and it's a great, and pretty mild, product to have on hand. More cut than the #9, but not TOO aggressive.
