Jeez! Nicely done. I know those transverse-mounted 3100 V6es can be a royal pain to clean; especially since the intake plenum cover is just textured cast aluminum.

My only suggestion is to save up for a steamer; you can make that radiator overflow tank and the master cylinder look brand new; it'll blast that yellowing right off.

Yeah, I noticed that overflow tank looks no better in the "after" shots than it does in the "before" shots. Maybe I can polish the yellowing off. I'll have to try that since a steam cleaner is down the road some for me.

Nice engine detail... !!! :xyxthumbs

My son has the same engine in his Grand Am. I usually hit it about once a month with Orange Blast, or Simple Green (diluted), scrub with a toilet brush, rinse with a GLASS of WATER... (notice I didn't say a hose), dry, and finish up with AA Tire Foam. Takes about 30 minutes.

Works pretty well, even on Rough-cast aluminum.

P.S. ... I use the same procedure on our Camaro, Firebird, and Accord. (lots of cars and kids!!!) The Grand Prix engine gets a little more attention... (see pics) V V V :grinno:

You guys have both made a valid point, the tank can either be replaced or deep cleaned with a steamer. The information provided is great if you have some time with the vehicle. However, most of the time we are somewhat constrained since the owner needs the vehicle back in a timely manner and the interior and exterior needs to be detailed as well. If you have the time regular maintanence is a must and flushing out the system is almost a necessity at least once a year. Let's keep the comments positive.

If that is a Camaro with an LT1 engine (1993-1997 Z28's), be sure to watch the water around the Optispark. :)

Mikeman: Nice job on the engine detail.

Sloth: What you are describing is similar to being VERY careful around the MAF sensor of a VQ35DE in an A33 Maxima.
