An Autopian 1-step...does it exist?

IMO, a 1-step product does have a niche in a detailer's arsenal. As an example, my parents like to have their Steel-grey metallic Mazda Tribute looking fairly nice but they do not have the time for a full detail. 90% of perfection is just right. With that said, I have been using Meguiar's ColorX for maintaining their vehicle...excellent cleaning power, great looks, and decent durability at a cheap price. However in my experience, ColorX does not spread well and I tend to use more when compared to other products. Now that my bottle is about to run out, it might be time to consider other alternatives (taking into account the importance of time).

Here are some options that I am considering:

1. Continue using ColorX - Why fix what isn't broken? If my parents are happy then I'm happy.

2. Switch to Poorboy's PwC Blue or Long Haul Polish/Wax (I have never used these products so I am open to suggestions and tips).

3. Create an "Autopian" 1-stepper:

----a. Depending on the paint finish, I would mechanically polish with Menzerna FPII or chemically polish with PB's Pro Polish.

----b. Wipe off the above product's residue with OCW (leaving behind a coat of protection).

Option 3 sounds like the best idea but I wanted to know if this is doable. I may be using 2 products but I'm still technically using the same amount of time if not slightly more. I am a great supporter of AIO, but durability is a weak point...I also enjoy Synwax but cleaning power is not strong enough. Sorry for the long post, but I am greatly interested in hearing everyone's opinions.

Long Haul Truck Polish/Wax and Meguiars #20 both work very well. Decent cleaning ability but not much defect correction. Both have a nice wet shine and good durability.

Mothers cleaner wax has pretty good cleaning abilities and hides a little bit also and lasts around 2-3 months. Its my favorite 1 step.

i was actually quite impressed with colorx. it's been 3-4 weeks and shows no loss in slickness/beading. for the price and availibility, you can't beat it.

I'm using Meguiar's #66 for client's who want a one step at the moment. Good chemical cleaning power, some cut to get rid of some of the swirls, and the durability seems OK-ish. Oh, and it's dead easy to use.

I think Optimum Polish with an OCW wipe down works VERY well as a one step. (i.e. mist the panel with OCW when you remove the polish residue).

PwC Blue impressed me as a one-step product. AIO is also good. But neither product will be outstanding as far as durability is concerned.

For cars with fairly good paint (all of mine to be fair) I use Megs cleaner wax for a quick once over. Often makes me wonder why I bother with a shelf full of other "potions"!!!!

ColorX is my one-step. Otherwise, I think you'll get excellent results with any cleaner wax. They're all pretty good. Someone mentioned Mothers; that's a good one too.

I sometimes wonder the same thing. Meg's consumer line cleaner/wax can't be beat for the price, durability and ease of application. Until I started reading these darn forums that's all I used and was very satisfied with the results. When I bought my last botle off NXT tech wax, I almost reached for the cleaner/wax instead.

In the spring Steve will be replacing PwC with PwS...I have it and I really like it a lot. It has great cleaning power and very decent durability...almost as durable as a lot of dedicated sealants, and soooo easy to use. Option #3 sounds good too.

2-3 months? Wow you get excellent durability for that product. I dont get 2-3 weeks!

Scratch that, I was thinking Megs #6 Cleaner/wax........

before I went "autopian," ColorX was my LSP of choice. Even today I use it as my go to 1 step product. Your comment of "dont fix what isnt broke" works well in this situation.

Thanks for the responses guys...I went ahead and purchased another bottle of ColorX. No one can touch the price - $5 @ the local Wally-world. My Dad washes his car once maybe twice a month, so I also bought him some Mother's FX spray wax based on the board's approval. That should pretty much maintain things till I get my hands on the truck again. I appreciate everyone's feedback.
