American Idol

Sheila, have you given up on this? :)

Do you think the judges are pushing a result more this year than years previous?

I thought that excluding David Cooks' 2 performances, Tuesday night was one of the worst for the finalists.

Lots of heaping praise on David A. "Crushed" the competition? Not based on the performances of the night. Stand By Me merited a "karoake/cruise ship performance" comment from Simon. And his Love Me Tender should have ranked in the bottom three performances of the season. His facial reactions are beginning to appear less genuine and more scripted.

Simon was correct again on Seyesha's Proud Mary. It was a pitiful attempt at a Tina Turner performance. Yes, she shrieks. I've said it all season, she "oversings" her natural vocal range. Randy almost had it right on her attempt at A Change is Gonna Come. The arrangement was poor, but he left out that her vocals didn't even come close to carrying off this song. She should have been gone 3 weeks ago and her presence makes for a weak top three. Remember Kimberly Locke? That girl can sing.

Jason Castro...well what can you say? His absence will certainly diminish the "fun" aspect of the show.

As Simon said (I hate agreeing with him :D) several weeks back, if the show's results are based on singing ability and doesn't turn into a popularity contest, David Cook will be the next American Idol.

Maybe my ears aren't trained to hear bad vocals but I have to disagree. Yes David Cook has talent and his vocals are pretty darn good, but I don't know how you can say Syesha's vocals were bad. She has an awesome voice imo and now she seems to be enjoying herself on stage which is what's keeping her alive in the competition.

Jason "The Mimbo" (guy bimbo) deserved to go and I think he was actually relieved. I think David A. should go next and I would be happy seeing either Syesha or David C. win.

The only person that seems to be not showing any weariness is Syesha. The rest have looked worn out at times to me. Just cause she is a home town favorite has nothing to do with my liking her voice by the way.

Well it's a YMMV situation. :) To my ears she oversings which Simon (again I hate to agree, because his comments are wrong as often as the are right) refers to as shrieking, which also leads to being "sharp". Her vocals have just been bad for several weeks now as she has tried to "up her game" (my assumption).

Jason a mimbo (guy bimbo), wouldn't that make him a gimbo? :D I've enjoyed him. Probably not the strongest vocalist, but he has been the most unique contestant in my memory. He also appeared to be the most unaffected of this year's finalists. Yeah, I'll admit he is from just up the road.

My bet now is for the two Davids in the finale. I think that is what the show's producer wants.

I think the 3 best ones are left. My wife almost always picks the winners for US and for Canada. I think she only missed two in the last 4-5 years. This year she's been saying David A. all along.

Did y'all see my niece and nephew on Neal Diamond night?
They were near Ryan Seacrest when he was seated with the audience just before Sheyesha.
My brother was further back but can be seen in freeze-frame.

I usually don't watch the show but have seen more weeks this year than ever before.
The try-outs are more fun.

I like David Archuletta (sp) but feel he is a bit young.
David Cook is just plain hot.

Kind of a fun beginning.

Well there was Simon again pushing a result. A knockout? Hardly. In a knockout only one contestant is voted on. Additionally, he described David C's first performance as "phenomenal".

Round 1
Kudos to Clive Davis who chose two completely appropriate songs for each contestant. I thought the first performance went to David C. I liked David A's performance OK, but it was much more "produced" including backup vocals compared to David C's.

Winner - David C.

Round 2
I couldn't really get into either song.

Winner - Even

Round 3
David A's performance of Imagine didn't equal his first. Granted it would have been a herculean effort to match that one, but that is the risk you take when you take on a previous peformance.

David C's performance was just plain better.

Winner - David C

David A really seems to be a one dimensional genre singer. He can sing ballads, and sing them pretty darned good. But how many albums would that produce? His last attempt at doing a "pop" song was just dismal.

David C is just more mature vocally. Yes he is pretty rock oriented, but rock music can go in at least a couple of directions.

My guess for voting demographics...
10-13 year old girls
Moms with children aged 10-17
Murray, UT residents - David A.

everyone else David C.

Of course I could be completely wrong. After all, this is the contest that produced Fantasia.

Yes it did seem Simon was pushing David A. to be the winner. I think both done well, and I think the votes will be close.

I want to see David Cook win and I thought both of them were very good last night.

I'm afraid David A. did a better job though (I agree that it was no "knockout") and considering his appeal with the voting crowd, I don't think it will be very close.

I would be willing to bet that David Cook is gonna have a great career from this point on though win or lose.

Just my opinion... personaly, I think they both ______ (use another word for what a vacuum does)! The first David seemed to be monotomatict in his performances, and the second one just butchered a beautiful Lennon song by "putting his own" touch on it... Seriously, how many albums will any of these "Idols'" cut before they are a hasbeens?? One, maybe two?? Heck even Houng had a Gold Album and he never made it to Hollywood.

Ok, so if I had to chose between the two; David Cook's got my vote. 'Cause true "Idols" don't just sing -- they perform!! Think Elvis woulda sold so many albums if he only sang, what about Garth Brooks, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Roy Orbison, or any of the other performers with multiple (more than one), platnuim albulms???

All I can say is that I've never watched a single episode and I sure didn't start last night. However, I did hear that David C won. Good for him. Honestly it is probably the best thing for David A if he is serious about a music career. He can sign with anyone and sing for anyone he wants to now. Once you win Idol then Idol owns you and you sing for who they want you to sing for. That is why only one American Idol winner has ever produced anything of note. The runners up are more successful than the winners are. They both got the exact same amount of exposure, the only difference is that one was liked more by the general public. Since when does the general public's opinion matter when record companies churn out albums? :D

Still.... how many people was it that voted? 97 million or something like that??? Sheesh... I'd charge $.10 per vote if I were American Idol. With as many times as voting happens throughout the show it would be a billion dollar enterprise by the end of the season probably. lol

I'm glad I got into the show this year. It has been a great season and I think the right guy won. I know my girls had a little to do with that. I think they voted about 20 times Tuesday night.

I stayed at work late last night and watched it on my DVR when I got home. The dumb thing cut off just as they were announcing the winner. I had to watch the end on youtube this morning. Great ending to a great season.:bigups
