Am I worthy Yet?

one day... one day... one day.... keep working... keep saving... one day.

i'd gladly take any one of those cars. I'd pass one #1 and 2 if i had a choice though, lol.

and 45 sounds reasonably for that caliber car. Remind him of product costs too.

Were those ALL his cars(the ones in the background as well?) AND his planes?? Wow I am super curious as to who this guy is:D I'd be extremely happy if I were detailing those beauties, plus he has more:grinno: But yeah, there's no reason for you to lower your prices just because he doesn't want to pay. Was that a show he held for the public or something??

Nothing constractive here, but I can't believe that someone with that kind of $$$$$$$$$$ would be shocked about $45/hour.

It should never happen. Doesn't make any sense.

I am sorry that you have to worry about what you are worth.

Just today while detailing a lady asked me to look at her old acura. Non correction full detail: $250 - she found it high I think. That is understandable.

Someone with that kind of money should pay you double for what you are asking. M2c

Wow. Those are some very nice looking cars. You know... if you ever need help then I'm technically just down the street, so to speak. I'm sure Jennifer would love to visit her brother while we do some detailing. I'll have that UDM in a few weeks that we can try out. ;)

also... if he is willing you should show him that there is a forum "autopia" of all these enthusiasts, so he understands your passion and how much time you put into the cars compared to those quick wash's

Don't show this guy that your are weak by lowering your price. Stick to the quote and tell hiim that it may go up in the future. Show him that your are a pro. He will respect you more and will think twice about asking you to do him favors for free. These type of people love to work over guys that lower prices because he has some nice cars. Next he will want you to pressure wash hid driveway!

Good Luck and show him you mean business!

I am putting together a portfolio of some of the correction I have done that can be either emailed or viewed in person. I am also holding as my last card in the deal a reduced rate offer for one of his daily drivers to showcase the skill I have.

I just don't understand why you own 12million dollars in cars and yet don't really take care of them like you need to. If you think about it in percentages the cost to correct some of his cars is LESS than that of some of the other daily drivers I do. 400$ to correct a 170,000$ car is less than 150$ to do a 30,000$ car..........maybe this is the wrong way to look at it.

I thought that he had put the Bugatti up for sale at Steve Harris?

Anyways, there are some amazing pictures of this guys set up over at Ferrarichat.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he is not willing to pay the $45/hr. Often times people with globs of money are very stingy and on top of it very picky at the same time.

I hope that this is not the case for you. Stick to your price, he can afford it.

Good luck!

I think more important is that I'm worth the price and the quality will be worth it. I think both he and I will benefit greatly from our work together.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke. Charging by the hour for detailers isn't like working in an office. You don't tell the customer that you are charging them $45 an hour. If they do the math and figure out that your two hour detail at $90 bucks equals $45 an hour, then so beit, but it isn't like you put that in the price sheet. You bid the job and if it takes you 12 hours to do a $90 dollar job then it is you who get screwed. Nobody hires a detailer and pays them by the hour unless it is at a shop where you make $6.50/hr.

You just confused me.... A lot of us charge by the hour. When a client asks what I charge for a detail, I tell them $60 an hour then I tell them that my avg detail takes 9+ hours dependings on vehicle and condition. What's wrong with an hourly rate qoute?

not that i know the pricing practices of professional detailers, but what he's saying makes some sense. i just had some construction work done on my house and i think i would give any contractor a swift kick in the butt if they tried to just tell me an hourly rate rather than an estimate for the whole job. visions of guys sitting around on their posteriors collecting hour rates dance through my head.

however, i do actually work in an hourly rate business. so i guess it just depends on what the guy is used to hearing.

9+ hours for an average detail at $60 an hour??? You charge over $500 bucks a detail?? Hey, I guess if you can get it then go for it. However, if you look at any professional detailer's website in the US I don't think you'll find that people are advertising an hourly rate. I wouldn't ever hire someone for an hourly rate for this kind of work. That kind of thing can scare people off. It's the same reason cars are priced at 29,900 instead of 30,000. For some reason it just seems like a lot less to not see that 3 in front of the price. For example, I used to be a sales trainer for a wireless company. When people didn't like the 500 minute plan, but it was obviously what they needed, I would suggest they pitch it as an 8 1/2 hour plan. You'd be surprised how often that worked. People don't always do the math in their head.

But this isn't a marketing or pricing thread. If you can get $500 bucks a detail by charging $60 bucks an hour for a 9 hour job, then more power to you. Count your lucky stars that it works in your area because I'll bet there aren't many people here who would get that kind of money. 9 hours is a really long time to spend on a detail unless you are talking about concours show detailing, which isn't what the typical customer wants.
