Am I slow?

Hello all,

I am currently in the process of detailing my ride and It seems to be taking me forever. Below is my process:

45 mins - 1 hour

Wash - McGs Nxt car wash

Wheels w/ new bucket of soap

Dry

Apply Tire dressing

1.5 hours

Clay entire car

4 hours

PC 7424 + LC Orange pad + XMT Fine swirl Remover

PC 7424 + LC White pad + XMT Ultra Fine swirl Remover

1.5 hours

PC 7424 + LC Black pad + Klasse SG [Realize half way through KSG is impossible to remove this way]

Hand application (Wipe On Wipe Off) Klasse SG, 1 coat

Estimated (havent got to yet) 1.5 hours

PC 7424 + LC Blue pad + P21S wax

Does this sound right to anyone? 8.5 hours? Another thing I noticed was that XMT Ultra Fine seems to be extremely dusting throwing yellow dust all over the car. Am I applying this wrong or is that the nature of the product.

I will take photos after P21 tommarrow.

Umm it's a little slow. Wash is fine maybe a little slow but claying shouldn't take more than an hour unless it's really bad. Your PC work should maybe take 2.5-3 hours but first couple times it takes longer. To wax it should not take 1.5 hours...more like 45 minutes max. Good luck.

Sounds about right to me... 9 hours for a quality job, what kind of car are you cleaning?

Should I "top" the KSG with the P21 wax. I hear from a couple of people that KSG should put on 3 coats, then put a wax on top of it.

What kind of paint...On solid colors I like to top with a carnauba but if it's a metalic then I leave it with KSG.

I typically don't take longer than 6 hours, and this includes the interior.

I've taken about 4 hours on a tough exterior and convered pretty much everything that you've listed. However, I use a rotary to compound the rough patches then my polishing, wax, and dressing is very quick after that. The more you detail, the faster you get. I do about 12 - 15 cars a week and still notice myself getting better and faster every day.

Everything but the wash sounds a little long to me (I'm not a pro, but a pretty finicky amateur), but doing it a couple of times will probably speed things up.

I use Klasse, but don't know how well SG works without a base of AIO. If it were me, I would start with a coat of AIO, then at least two, and probably three coats of SG before applying the wax.
