Am I Expecting Too Much From Detailing?

I don't think this is an issue of high expectations, rather, as Accumulator mentioned, somone who is unsure how to effectively remove moderate to deep marring. Personally, at this point I would find a reputable Autopian (there are many) and fly/drive them out to do the car. I do not think it is unreasonable on a car that is less than 2-4 years old with no major scratches to remove 99% of the marring. It sounds like it'd be worth it to you.

Sorry to hear what happened to both cars. First of all, you should always look at the detailers car when asking for work. If their car is in bad condition then i would suggest you stay away. Second, lnext time you find a detailer, stay there while he does an area and see what his work looks like. If he didtn improve then tell him to stop. There is a way to get perfectly swirl free shine but it also depends on teh current condition of the car and if it had previous polishes.

Nice work. Did you use a PC or Rotary and what polishes? Just curious. How many passes to get the results?

Well, I bought both cars used, so I was/am trying to fix problems caused by other people before I owned it. I was trying to do exactly what you suggested - get it fixed right and then keep it up myself. The problem is I can't get step 1 accomplished.

I can't get any good pictures with my digital camera, so I can't show you the issue. In trying to take pictures, I just found some significant fine scratching in the wheel well arch, which wasn't there before. :furious: Is there any possibility that he burned through a good portion of clear coat with a PC?

So I'm at a loss for what to do at this point. I've tried posting on this board looking for an Autopian to do some work on my car, and this is how I found the last guy. :(

Where are you located?

Most likely a Rotary. Today i tried to polish a small portion of a hood with fiberglass pads and Menzerna Intensive polish and it didnt even touch it a bit. Corvette clear is extremely hard.
