Am I crazy? Souveran not as nice as with #21 alone?

So I get the MR2 out today for the first time in 3 weeks. Did a complete polish topped with #21 x 2 and one coat of Souveran. I took pics after the #21 and it looked really really shiny, lots of reflections. Topped with one coat of Souveran and today it just looked, well, not as shiny or as many reflections. Is this possible or am I losing my mind with all this stuff?

I'm thinking about putting a couple more coats of 21 back on it, maybe I like the synthetic look, who knows? Can I simply coat with 21 over Souveran or do I need to remove the Souveran first, maybe with AIO?

Thanks for the input as always.

I have been really impressed with #21 by itself.... Ive done a few black cars with #21 now and each one looks incredible without a topper. Although #21 + #16 is amazing too.

Was the weather different? The lighting? Maybe the 21 has the look you want, maybe the Souveran isn't adding anything more to the look of the finish. :nixweiss

Its hard to say why the look changed, I don't think your going crazy. I'd try doing a 1/2 and 1/2 with the same prep, topping two coats of 21 on one side and 2 coats of Souveran on the other. Compare under the same lighting and decide which you think looks better.

FWIW, I find that carnauba waxes seem to look better the next day...

In my limited experience, the sealants I've tried always look more shiney. The carnaubas look a tad more wet but definately deeper.

I've use several waxes before, and Souveran seems to give the best look so far, even on my Pearl white car. Used Klasse sealant last weekend, and liked it, but doesnt give the same effect. I think it all comes donw to preference though.

You are not crazy at all - I've come to the realization that everyone sees different things when it comes to LSP appearances. Example, I think NB looks wetter than Souveran yet I read the opposite all the time. At the the end of the day, I ask myself "Does it look good?" If yes, life goes on like normal.

I have never used #21 but it seems that is what you prefer (does not equate to "Souveran is inferior to #21" - it's just a preference). Unfortunately, I believe you will have to start completely over if you intend to add more #21. I don't think it's possible to selectively remove your layer of Souveran. AIO and begin your layers of sealant again.

You're not crazy! Sealants tend to have a brighter look to them than carnauba waxes. When you top the sealant with the carnauba it dulls the brightness. I wouldn't necessarily term one look bad though. It's all a matter of preference. As others have already made clear "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

regardless of the hype about PS it isn't as clear as sealants. If you want a warmer, distorted look carnaubas are for you (and you like to apply them often).

Not crazy - remember, there seems to be a large "placebo" effect among any person as far as what they use, for the most part.

I wonder how many people would notice if, say, we switched the wax inside a jar of Souveran with another "wet" wax, like NB. Would hardcore Souveran fans be able to notice if we were able to change the color, smell, etc (and assuming, of course, that this was a secret thing)? :nixweiss

Of course, I'm not trying to say any of these waxes are bad at all... I really hope no one gets that impression. I believe both are great waxes, but without an objective system of measuring performance of LSP products, then I think we're just "stuck" with individual impressions - but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. The average joe can't even tell the difference between some turtle wax and our multi-hour (and multi-day) detail sessions. I mean, just look at all the people who drive around with swirls and don't give a second thought about it.

+1 for my Imola Red M5

That's funny, I've said it before on another forum, two friends have e39' M5's, Carbon Black and Lemans Blue for the other. NB looked a tad wetter and crisper then Souveran, Souveran looked just barely warmer if that makes sense. I think Souveran is great, but I love the look of Natty's Blue, even on my white suv NB looks excellent, good durability too. Souveran has a slight edge in apply but that's b/c it's so full of oils so it kinda wipes on. NB is still very easy to apply and remove though.
