Am I anal?

I have had several friends and my roommate, say that I am anal or OCD because of my cleaning habits, I wash my truck once or twice a week, sometimes more, and I clean the interior almost everyday. I also clean my apartment every single day, I clean constantly (kinda strange for a college student, girls freak out when they see how clean it is), I am this way about everything. I have even had one girl tell me that she didn't like coming over to my apartment because she was afraid she would mess something up! Is this just taking pride in my things and keeping them nice? , or am I "anal"?

I used to qd mine once a day even tho its pakred outside and will just as dusty after an hoiur of sitting around, now i just wash it once a week, qd midwek to keep it nice looking, i think every day is a bit much.

You sound like a customer of mine. He washes his car 5-6 times a week, and even washes it the day before I wax it about every two months.

Watch Matchstick Men. You'll feel better about yourself. Honestly, we are all relatively OCD about our automobiles at the very least. In my house, I'm clean but not necessarily neat. For example, the house gets vacuumed, dusted, and cleaned at least once a week but shoes don't get put away and my jacket hangs on the end of the banister. Go figure.

what does it mean when u guys say that you are 'anal' about car detailing...forgive my teenage mind, but it sounds just plain wrong hehe

"Anal" is short for "anally retentive," or in other words, very uptight. I can understand the confusion:D

You can thank Sigmund Freud and his perverted theories of psychology for the term "anal retentive" . Watch "Monk" on USA, its a great show, I can relate to much of how Monk feels, I just dont worry about germs and shaking people's hands :D

Guess I'm not alone in not caring for the "anal" bit...but then I don't think too highly of Freud anyway.

*I* would say that you're not OCD unless it really IS a disorder. If you want to spend your time cleaning stuff, who's to say it's weird. Now if you quit your job because you need more time to do it, then that'd be something different ;) So long as you're not shortchanging yourself by spending time on [whatever] instead of spending it on something *YOU* would rather do, you're just pursuing happiness.

360RamGuy01- Unless you give off some kind of "I'm stressed about things staying spotless!" vibe, girls being worried about making a mess..well, that says more about them than it does about you.

Bill D- Monk would be a little better if he treated that Volvo better :D His cleanliness obsession doesn't seem to extend to the car he rides around in  Even my wife winces at the way he and Sharona treat it.

Yeah, makes me sad how poorly the Volvo is treated, I think Monk might find therapy by riding in one of our cars ;) :D

Keep in mind, "anal" ain't all it's cracked up to be :) This forum is inhabited by car guys/gals that are interested in only the latest technology when it comes to maintaining an exceptionaly clean vehicle. Enter at your own risk!

when's the last time your mother yelled at you for having a clean room? :D don't worry about it until it starts interferring with your life. and besides, girls like a guy who can clean. ;)

Most people who tell others that they are too anal about keeping things clean are usually slobs... ;)

I think it sounds a bit excessive. But like others have said, if it isnt interfering with your daily life its not a problem. I dont clean my house everday per se, but I do in the sense that Im alwasy picking up after my wife. She definitely isnt OCD about cleaning.

OCD is a common disease on this site.

My girlfriend actually was diagnosed with OCD. It got pretty bad at times but she just keeps it to lots of cleaning now a days. Our appartment is pretty well kept IMO.

If someone doesn't like it, then they can't accept you as a person, move on :)

Only YOU can decide. If you ENJOY what you're doing (or the results!), then what the heck...carry on! Like others have said, when your cleaning habits start to interfere in a negative way with your life or your relationships, THEN start worrying! :D
