Alternative to Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer

I take a separate bucket for interiors, fill with hot water - and use terry cloth towels, depending on the grime factor - bad gets either diluted APC or woolite mix, dusty gets just water, then I rinse the towel, spray a little Vinylex on it and do a final wipe down. On my last detail, I went through 6 buckets of water -I really need to start wearing rubber gloves!

I'd be a little leery of leaving it unrinsed, even in a mild dilution. Might not be a realistic concern but I'd just feel that such stuff oughta get rinsed off. Eh..maybe it's just me :nixweiss

Ha. ONR is nice for a wipedown. A damp towel will also do as good in many cases. The advantage of OID is the scent which is one reason I thought you liked it. Ihad mixed up some DG APC 1:20. Has some decent and goes a very long way.

Hey Accumulator! Have both products. If there is a difference between the application of 1Z Cockpit Premium and Meg's QID I've missed it. :think2 Spray and wipe, basic stuff. Both seem to be equal in cleaning ability (light) and protecting (none).

I'm going to have to disagree with Mr. Clean here. I think that 1Z blows Meg's QID out of the water. I always feel as though QID leaves a residue behind, as opposed to 1Z which wipes completely clean. 1Z seems to clean a bit better--I can't really speak to protection (I don't think anyone can, really). QID is a bit easier to work with, mainly because 1Z evaporates so quickly.



A quick note--1Z has a very strong lemony scent which generally dissipates pretty quickly. However, it is noticeable, and if you don't want something with a scent than I would advise against it. I've used many interior sprays over the years, and 1Z is by far my favorite. Really amazing stuff, and it works great on home electronics as well.

Bostonfavson, I see your claim that "1Z blows Meg's QID out of the water", yet you go on to describe the difference as "1Z seems to clean a bit better" but "QID is a bit easier to work with". At least in these parts that hardly qualfies as "one product blowing another out of the water.";) IMO, other than the scents the differences in application and results are negligible.
 
Mr. Clean, the reason I state that 1Z "blows QID out of the water" is because I think that overall it's a much better interior detailer, plain and simple. You quoted one of the differences I mentioned (that it cleans a bit better) but left out the other one, which is huge: 1Z wipes completely clean. It's this fact that makes 1Z so great. The surface you are left with has a perfect, natural finish.



It's okay for us to disagree. It's a matter of personal preference. All I know is that I used to be a Meg's QID guy, but after trying 1Z I'll never go back. I gave my QID away to a neighbor, actually.
 
1Z Cockpit Premium is Da Bomb! My Fav alongside Megs QID



Also, Surf City Dash Away is quite very nice as well.



I also like Eagle One Nano-Protectant.



Overall, these are very close imo and can't go wrong whichever one you choose.
 
I'd like to hear more comparisons of ONR mixed to QD strength as an interior cleaner vs. the QID and 1Z.



My personal favorite is 1Z but with as much as I go through it's tough to not take into account price. The QID is cheaper but I buy every bottle on the shelf each time I pick some up and it still seems like I'm going back for more at least every 2-3 weeks.



I'll add one more to the mix that I've used recently on a whim and actulaly liked enough to pick up a few more bottles. Armor All has a Mutli-purpose cleaner that's pretty decent and leaves very little residue behind. Very similar to Megs QID and it's even cheaper than the QID. Again I havn't been able to find it in bulk though.

Hmm...I've used lemony-scented interior products before and they don't bother me as long as they dissipate completely after a while (the way the Meg's QID does). Within a day or two I want the interiors smelling the way the given vehicles normally do and not like some detailing product.
 
Is Meg's QID suppose to leave any protection? Its just so easy to use and smells good. The sprayer is nice too...but I doubt is leaves protection like 303 or Optimum's vinyl/leather protectant (whatever they changed the name to). :nixweiss



I have yet to try the 1Z stuff.
 
According to Einszett, 1Z "cleans, cares and protects" and is "formulated to prevent fading."



Now, whether or not this is just marketing BS or it actually has some protective abilities, I don't know.



In addition to interiors, they also state that it's good to use on the following surfaces:



-paintwork

-clear plastic

-glass

-chrome

-metal



I've never tried it on these surfaces, but I have some time today so maybe I'll give it a shot and report back later.
 
I'm never all *that* impressed with the supposed "protection" provided by such products, or perhaps I should say, with the *need* for protection. The interiors that I *never* protect seem to hold up as well as the ones that I do, seems like today's interior materials are a lot less fragile than such stuff was in the past.

I find the scent to be very short lived.



Maybe Cockpit Premium has been re-formulated, but if memory serves (and I'm going back several years, so that's questionable :o) when I was introduced to the product it was strictly a "qd" style product; no protection. Which makes sense as they have Tiefenpfleger which is their vinyl/rubber protectant.
 
I've tested 1Z CP on a non-car dirty vinyl surface and it cleaned it perfectly and left a darker, slippery, matte surface. That told me it had a *little* protection and a lot of cleaning power.



I also use QID and my perception of it is that it cleans well (but not as good as 1Z) and leaves a bit more protection. I have a few bottles of the old formula which doesn't contain the updated improved protection.



I would summarize the two this way:

Both excellent products

1Z CP has superior cleaning ability

QID has superior protection

Scent is a personal preference.

Wow, this thread is super helpful, but i still have some questions.



The way I do it:



-wipe interior down (mix of plastic, vinyl, etc) using a damp terry cloth towel



-apply protectant



My interior is RARELY ever actually dirty, but is dull and maybe a little dusty in between washings, every other week or so.



What product do i want to use to protect and maintain my interior plastics, vinyl, etc. I use leather cleaner/conditioner on my seats and leather, so i just need something for the dash board and interior panels, door, etc. Can anyone recommend something for me? Something of high quality is a must!
 
I am sorry but I have to bump this rather than creating a new one. Does anyone have other alternative to dedicated interior detailier like QID and 1Z? Something in the league of ONR QD; using a non interior detailer product as an interior detailer product. I asked because I may not have to buy different kind of products and just save my hard earned money.
