alternative to M105?

I believe I am going to purchase some Menzerna SIP and Menz 85rd but was also thinking of a small bottle of something with a little more cut however I have been reading a ton of people have been having issues with 105 (caking up, dusting, etc). Is there another alternative out there that would serve the purpose.

I will be using the polishes with a DA (Flex 3401 or Cyclo).

3M Extra Cut

Menz Power Gloss

CG EZ Cut Heavy or Cut 1.0 Body Shop

Optimum Compound

I didn't find M105 to have a steep learning curve at all. You don't even need to use the Kevin Brown Method but it's a good guide to use to eliminate misuse of the product.

I'd stick to the M105. Every product has it's positives and negatives as far as caking, dusting, etc.

i wouldnt put OC even close to 105...maybe hyper, maybe!

I hear the prima line up is supposed to offer same cutting, longer working time and slightly less dusting than 105...someone was supposed to send me a sample a couple weeks ago, but it doesnt look like it will be sent

Although a little pricey, I have found Gloss-it Extreme Cut to have slightly less cut as M105, but it responds and performs just as well. I believe the Gloss-It product will remove 2000 grit scratches; whereas M105 is designed to remove 1200 grit scratches. I have had very good results with the Gloss-It products.

Meg's Ultimate Compund - no caking and it lasts a long time so you can wipe it off before it gets dry if you like. As a non-diminishing abrisive (like 105) you don't have to work it until the product breaks down - because it won't.

Absolutely agree about the OC/OHC.

I got to use some of the Prima line recently and I really liked it.

They were rebottled in generic bottles and hand-labeled, but I'm pretty sure I used the Ultra Cutting Creme (I believe it's rated to 1200, but the shop bottle I used had 1500 written on it...go figure).

One of the other guys brought a heavy cut from Prima in that felt like liquid sand paper.

Anyway, all the various polishes I used behaved very well: aggressive cut, good working time and nice finish....I didn't experience any dusting with any of them, either.

They were worked via Rotary with wool pad, by the way.

If you ever get that sample, I'd be curious to get your thoughts on it.

IME I would have a much harder time using a PC/flex removing the mess left by 3M ECC or Power Gloss. IMO you will find it easier to deal with alleged short comings of M105, then the mess you will induce into the finish using a PC/flex and ECC or PG.

I think M105 is easier t work with than any of the similar-cut products that I use.

Same here. I was a very hard sell on M105, having been happy with my other compounds. But it's just *so* much easier overall....I sure never thought that *I* would end up singing the praises of M105, but that's how it worked out.

I've never used PG, but there's no way I'd use 3M Extra Cut with anything except a rotary. M105 via DA/RO is a great follow-up to that BTW.

I *do* like the 3M EC, but only when M105 won't do the job (a whole lot easier overall).

I agree with this totally!
