Almost 19 years in business, first time I see this........

I bet the property owner’s wife was caught cheating with one of the detailers out there.

That's legitimate, right? :grinno:

Ok in all seriousness, yeah I know how fun is that, I’d have to go with the liability issue.

Too bad..that means anyone of the employees that work there will have to park their Bimmers, Lexus, and MB's in a different lot, or hand over the keys for you to take.

Seriously, that sign is rediculous

They bring it to my shop, I pick it up, or I do it at their house. I've never done one in a parking lot, sorry.

I work almost exclusively on commercial property, offices, plazas, banks etc. In the last 10 years I have only been asked to leave twice. I can't speak for CA but in South Florida I know many offices that get hit up 3-4 times a day with "wash-only" hacks . Some of these guys even try to hook up to water without permission. I don't blame them for putting up the sign. No harm done. There's plenty of work out there.

So, how do you initiate that type of business. Do you just show up when a customer asks or do you clear it with the facility first? I wouldn't mind picking up some biz that way, but never knew how to get started.

+1, it's private property and the owners of said property have every right to allow or disallow whatever they choose to. How many of you have a sign at your home that says "No Solicitors" ? I bet you wouldn't think twice about how you're making it "difficult for the door-to-door sales guys to make a living"....

That said, here's a gag you can play: Call the landlords / owners of the building and say you work for one of the offices in there and there's an auto detailer in the lot doing work. Ensure you are at the "No Auto Detailers" sign, detailing it (polishing with a rotary would be preferred) when the landlords / owners show up. When they ask what the **** you're doing, explain that you're a "sign detailer", not an automotive one :lol

Joe,

The problem is its Diamond Bar, they have some crazy laws.....you must pick up after your horse.....need to carry large trash bags I guess.

Cheers,

GREG

wow. i have never seen anything like that myself. As mentioned before . . . . . people now days just want to find something to complain about when comes to stuff like this. I have ran into situations where management doesn't agree with detailing at certain area's or what not all because one person complains.

It's lame.

I've seen those before in the south. I think they are usually installed for several reasons. I know one reason being that the property owner pays taxes on and pays to maintain their lots. They sometimes get pissed of when other businesses use it for free.

Way to bolt the sign onto the angled part of the post. Jerks! Look how the sign is bent in on the angle iron. That's real pride!

I think it's bolted right. It's just bent is all.

Just because one chooses to be a mobile detailer doesn't mean they have the right to detail where they please. A property owner has the right to govern their property against trespassers and unauthorized work being performed on the premises.

You wouldn't want me bringing my car to your shop and working on it.

Well, they could have at least used a "U" channel LOL. At least it would be flat.

Looking at that gives me the same feeling as seeing a vehicle with a front license

plate thats bent and curled upward, or a rear one on a pickup, where somehow a trailer tongue indented it. Oh well, it's their property I guess. I would certainly not like to see this sign if I were paying rent in an appartment complex and had nowhere else to buff out scratches or clean my windows.

There is an office complex in the Dallas area (635/Midway) that doesn't allow any vendors to work in their parking lots. No washing, no detailing, no windshield replacement, etc. Not sure why, security guard had no idea. Ended up detailing the customer's car on the street next to the parking lot.

EDIT-didn't realize this was on old thread and I'd already replied. :lol

There's a difference between cleaning your own vehicle and charging a fee to clean a vehicle.

And yes, this is an old thread. Who revived this thing!
