I'm in...

...just turned 38 last week...

1. 66 Mustang (65a red on red 200cid straight six with factory air - looked good but SLOW)

2. 88 Mercury Tracer (looked like a jelly bean, nicknamed space shuttle dyslexia, lost in flood in 89)

3. 82 Volvo 240 (tough beast that needed to be - college car and much mistreated)

4. 89 Dodge Caravan (dad's company car that I bought after it's fleet life - not too bad)

5. 94 Olds 88 (first new car, highway cruiser extraordinaire, not cool but very comfy - kept for about 8 years and 111,000 miles - wife inherited)

6. 86 Saab 9000 (was given to me by a ministry I worked out after my wife started driving the Olds - my favorite car of all time strangely - first with sunroof - finally cost to much for me to keep running)

7. 2001 Chevy Malibu (basic transportation second new car)

8. 2003 Mercedes C320 (bought with inheritance, total piece of junk, sold after eight months and 8 times in the shop, gear shift knob popped out the first day I had it)

9. 2004 Subaru Forrester XT (the turbo one, very reliable but low mpg, uncomfortable seats, and worst of all, it wasn't a mini convertible)

10. 2005 Mini Cooper S convertible (mid-life crisis car, still fun, still have)

That's it, 10 cars in 22 years of driving. Though the car guy gene is beginning to flare up as I eye the next new car :)

Hardly any BMWs here, whats going on?

BMW E34.

Photos below..

Potential purchase..? Another E34, which would be a '95 540i in either black, or very dark blue.

Otherwise, a 97-99 CL500 or S500, both in the W140 chassis style.

In the two wheel category, I'll be purchasing a bike. More than likely this purchase will be before either of those vehicles, but it will probably be an older SV650 to learn on.

After that, most definitely a Ducati Monster or a BMW GS or K1200R, but both of those would be after college and well into a steady job.

Charles, that 740i is beautiful, the E38 is one of my all time favorite BMW body styles. :up

I'm 17, and just my first car, a 2002 Lincoln LS V8 last week. 58200 miles, gold with tan interior. Definitely gonna keep it for a while. Would love an E39 530i in a couple of years.

Isn't it? It's so mafia, I can't get over how badass that car is. It will be tastefully tinted here soon.

Yea, Interesting story on that one..

I purchased the E34 just a few years ago, right when I graduated high school. My family wanted to buy me a GTI, and regardless of what they wanted to buy me or not, I told them that I wanted to buy my own car with the money I had saved during my high school job, so I found some E34s to look at.

Well, when I was in grade school, my dad had an amazing E24 635CSI in bahama beige that he had since new in the eighties, which is absolutely unobtainable nowadays, especially in the amazing condition that car was in. Well, a lady putting on makeup rear ended him at a light when I was in middle school, and he eventually bought a truck or something. Nothing like his 6er.

Getting on with the story, I took him with me to test out an E34 that I had been looking at, because I thought this would be the one I would buy. First thing he said when he got in the car was, "This smells like my old car, man that was nice." So, about a year after I've had the car, he says he's going on a trip to Northern California, a trip to the vineyards. Little did I know, it turned out that he only had a one way ticket. He ended up picking up a 740i OEM Sport package, in beautiful condition, from some hipster who was going to buy some new Porsche. My father drove the car through Napa Valley, had a tour of the wine country, and drove all the way back to Portland, OR, and called me when he got home.

My dad totally one-upped me. :furious:

I was so jealous of his trip, but more so of this car he picked up. He told me that he had been thinking about finding another BMW ever since he sat in mine before my purchase.

lol

Classic.

Speaking of the E39 530i, excellent choice. I can't get over the beautiful high-revving smoothness of the BMW I-6..

For me the 3 series is where I am happy and anything above a 5 series is excessive. -just my tastes though-

By the way, the SV-650 is an awesome bike (beginner and experts) -VERY high torque and you can stomp the 600s stop light to stop light. In my opinion, the Ducati Monster -at least the older ones- would be a step down. -most you find used, are the frumpy 8 valve - and the SV will be/feel faster and smoother-

Plus at the race track the SV is a demon.

Excessive? Come on?

In price or size? Explain. They all have their place, and let me tell you, that 7 series is one heck of a smooth highway cruiser, but is wonderful in the twisties. The E38 740i sport actually handles better than my 5er.
