AIO with 3M SMR

I will be getting my Klasse twins in the mail real soon. I was planning on it putting on after using the last of my 3M SMR underneath it. AIO will not remove the 3M stuff, will it?

Yeah, I *would* expect the AIO to remove the fillers from the SMR. Might not if you apply the AIO *very* gently, but that would sorta negate the whole idea of using AIO. You want the SG to bond to the AIO and the AIO to bond to the paint. That doesn't really leave a role for the SMR's fillers.

FWIW, the SMR *does* contain some mild abrasives, so it might not be a complete waste. But I'd use something more like PI-III MG or the new PI-3000 equivalent.

Yeah, the FI-II would be a lot better for this. IIRC it doesn't leave anything behind and in fact, I think the last time I used FI-II was before applying the Klasse twins (hard to remember, it's been a while).

when you run out of stock of your old 3M line, try the new PI-3000 line. I only tried the new 3M PI-3000 SMR which is very different from the old 3M filling-SMR.

Actually, I like the Menzerna line of polishes best. I happened to have bought FI II before I discovered Mernzerna. In any case, I can't get PI 3000 locally. If I have to order online, I'd rather buy Menzerna.

Like the new style bottle they have (small clear one).

I also notice they just have one SMR product now for both light and dark colored cars.

Hey tripper_11 did you post a review on this 3000 SMR?

I haven't post a review in the reviews sections, since it's not available at autopia car-care.

But I remembered posting a minor review somewhere in the Detailing Product Discussion, when someone asked about the 3M PI-III MG (05937).

The 3M PI-3000 SMR is just MG reformulated to be VOC complaint and IMHO, slightly (I mean very slightly) aggressive than 3M Machine Glaze. And this new 3M PI-3000 SMR stays wet longer than MG.

So to avoid confusion, the old 3M SMR for light and dark colored cars, don't seem to be much aggressive, and in fact only fills in swirls, whereas the new 3M PI-3000 SMR is a full-fledged abrasive polish that doesn't fill, but rather cuts the paint to remove the swirls, not just hide them.

I haven't tried the other PI-3000 products...I don't see any need for a Rubbing Compound for now...

EDIT:

I tried to look at the MSDS of the new 3M SMR, no mineral oils now....
