AIO+SGx3+UPP Applicatoin and upkeep questions

I'm about to try out this combo(AIO+SGx3+UPP), and I have a few questions about it.

1. Should I wait anytime between applying the AIO and SG, and should I wait anytime between applying the coats of SG?

2. Would the 100% cotton applicator pads that I bought from Zaino work well for applying those products?

3. Should I wait a certain amount of time between applying SG and UPP, and how often should I reapply UPP?

4. I am switching from Zaino, and I really like their car wash, so I was wondering if there were any specific car washes to use with this combo, or if their car wash would be fine.

5. Is there any specific QD that ya'll like to use with these products? Again, I am switching from Zaino, and I still have some Z-6, which I really like. Would there be anythign wrong with using that QD?

6. How often should I repeat the whole application process?

Sorry about all the questions, but I just wanted to get these things cleared up. Thanks for the help.

1. Wait at least 24 hours for each layer of SG to fully cure.

2. Foam hand pads work better, IMO and waste less product.

3. Wait at least 24 hours before topping SG with anything. I'd apply UPP about every 4-6 weeks, start over again in 6 months.

4. Any quality car wash soap should be fine.

5. I haven't used Z6 so I can't comment specifically, but I like using Quikshine.

6. See #3

Thanks for the quick response. Would the foam hand pads from the local auto parts store work well for applications? Also, when you apply DACP, you use a 100% Cotton towel right? Would the applicator pads I have would work as well as the towel?

Also, one more question about the application. Do you apply any presser to the surface when applying AIO/SG/UPP? Thanks again for the help.

Foam hand pads do not work well with DACP since they are too soft to properly work the product until nearly clear and dry and maintain an even pressure. Terry cloth hand pads will load up with product very quickly and once they do, they loose the aggressiveness of the terry cloth nap. Terry cloth towels work best because you can continually refold them (to a point, of course!).

I use light to moderate pressure with AIO, light with SG and UPP.

I concur with Scott on all counts except in the area of applicators. I tried foam pads with AIO and SG and had trouble getting thin coats. I had better luck with cotton applicators. However, with UPP, foam worked great. I think it's because UPP is thicker in consistency. I am not saying the one or the other is better. Just that it's different for each person. For me, cotton was easier to work with for Klasse and foam for UPP. YMMV.

There's gonna be a personal-preference thing here with the applicators. *I* like foam or MF myself for everything except *maybe* some aggressive handpolishing (like yor DACP work), who knows WHAT you're gonna like :) Try a few things and see what works best for you. Just be careful with cotton, as SOME people, SOME times inflict some micro marring with it. It's the (*occasional*) downside of the aggressiveness that Scottwax mentioned.

~One man’s opinion / observations~

I also agree with Scottwax on most counts, the exception, “Foam hand pads

I use a PC with a white foam pad and apply the SG to the pad with a Zymol Schpritzer Flask; I find that this combination gives a super-fine (no pun intended) application of the product.

~Hope this helps~

Alright thanks for the help. I had planned on trying different applicators to see which one I like better. Are all foam applicator pads the same? Will the ones from places like auto zone work the same?

One thing you might try for applying SG is something I ran into while trying to get Z5/Z2 on very thin.

I took the sleeve off a dress shirt that was 65% Polyester and 35% cotton and cut it in about a 12" section then folded it till it was about a 3" square.

I used a shirt that had no raised pattern ( embossing?) and I rubbed it on a CD using the same pressure I would applying the Z2 and it didn't scratch. After using this method and before I went on with the rest of the car I checked the area under floresent/halogen and the dreaded mercury vapour parking lot lights. No evidence of cloth induced maring.

With the 3" sq you can wrap it up over your 2 middle fingers and hold it there with your little and index finger. I use a small mouth bottle and tip it to the pad in 2 spots ( 1/2" dia. ) on my fingers to apply the SG to the pad

The pad like this holds the SG very well and its actually easy to get thin even coats on in a back and forth motion.

Just something to try. Not only that .. an old shirt makes lots of throw away applicators.

That is the exact combination I have on my red truck right now.

First SG can iimediately follow the AIO, the wait a minimum of 24 hours for subsequent SG's probably more if weather is cool and or damp.

For the SG, I (now) use a microfiber towel, water wetted, but then wrung out to damp, to apply the SG. This greatly aided me in getting the SG very thin so I have had no streaking problems. I say "now" because the first time I used a 4" foamie and got the SG on too thick and it streaked like a mofo.... With the damp MF, apply then wipe off a la Bill North = no further problems.

Used SONUS QD the bail me out of the first too thick episode and it worked well. This is because Sonus is Klasse-friendly by design. No cheap, but effective.

Of last I've been alternating PUPP and Sonus as time permits and have a spectacular shine. One of these day I'll apply another SG over that base...
