AIO not beading

I put some AIO on my wifes car last week, and I haven't had time to add any SG or topper yet. But when I washed her car today the water didn't bead up at all. It just sat there like a non-waxed car.

Is this normal for AIO?

I've used AIO on my other vehicles, but I usually add some SG and carnuba topper, so I've never got to see how just the AIO holds up by itself.

I have always experienced the same thing. AIO seems to never hold up by itself for than 2 weeks for me. Others on here will swear a good 4-6 months but I have never seen it. Now dont get me wrong I really like AIO and I use all the time but only as a base for my LSP.

I have found the same as you guys. After a couple weeks the protection is gone. It definitely needs to be topped with at least one product. :D

I seriously doubt that the protective qualities are gone in 2 weeks. IMO if its only able to last 2 weeks its not worth using and I'd look for a different product like Colrx or Finish Kare-IMO the protective qualities are there but the water beading is gone. Some manufactureres claim that some of their products protect for months after the beading stops(Mohters. Meguiars)

How can you be sure that the protection is there or not? I just always tell by how well the water beads up after a wash.

Yea, some manufacturers claim that, but to be blunt, they've never substantiated that claim to my satisfaction. I'm with Pb2theMax - I judge protection by how well a product keeps beading.

When I apply AIO, the surface feels slick but also gets a real 'plasticky' feel to it, like its been shrink-wrapped...I'm talking about the feel, not the look.

Even after it starts sheeting, the 'plasticky' feel remains. IMO, that says to me that its still protecting.

Only two weeks protection? I've been using AIO on my 18' boat since I bought it new in 1998. Not using anything as a topper, it still looks showroom new. I apply it once a year in the spring and it protects for the entire summer. Remember, we're talking about a fiberglass boat that is exposed to alot more water than any car ever will be.

I'm not a fan of AIO but for long-term protection you want sheeting not beading. Why? This is how it was explained to me.

You’re at work or out somewhere and one of those summer time storms or say a sprinkler goes off on your car. You have a light layer of dust on your car witch will contain some pollution in it. Now the water and dust have mixed and it is beading up nice. The Sun comes out and all of those beads start acting like magnifying glasses heating up your finish. As the water evaporates the beads are getting smaller and the contaminates are now starting to concentrate being pushed into your cleat coat. Now the water is gone and you have these containments baked on to your finish.

We could get into a deep discussion about surface tension and all that but I’m a simple non-technical person.

If you finished washing your car and all the water sheeted off in 30 seconds that would be great. You would not have to worry about water spots. Most people judge a wax or sealant by the amount of beading so the Mfg's focus on this. If we could find a product that would sheet the water off after applied I think life would be much easier.

AIO without SG is raher like beer without yeast - you only have have a job done. AIO is a great foundation for just about anything else you put on top of it, but it DOES require a topper. SG just happens to be an excellent choice. Remember the protection offered by the Klasse system comes from the SG.
