AIO and Zaino

AIO has removed minor surface marring for me and others as a result of using 3M abrasives. Chemical cleaners do not level out or polish a surface, it's the abrasives.

DK, don't you think the acrylic in the AIO would possible yellow over time via exposure, affecting the appearance of Zaino on top of it? Also, wouldn't the protective element in AIO prevent Z from fully bonding?

I never apply Z right over AIO...If I use AIO I usually drive the car a few weeks (car washes) and then Zaino at that time.

Can never be too anal :) And yes all that gingerbread that you mentioned is certainly possible.

Ive wondered the same thing. BradE was the first one to experiment with AIO/Z, over a year ago, but hes never said if hes had any kind of problems with it. Ive never had yellowing with AIO, but it seems that it could inhibit bonding of Z. Im not sure if BradE washes with Z7 after AIO. Maybe washing before it cures, removes any residual AIO.

You guys are probably all correct. I just found the effect to be negligible except the lightest of swirls. I have tried AIO, Mother's pre-wax cleaner, etc. and not felt the abrasives by hand. But you can certainly feel some fine grit in compounds like DACP.

I would certainly not bother with AIO to do any amount of swirl removal, but go to a dedicated product for that first.

I'm positive a good wash with Dawn or even just Z7 would remove enough acrylic to eliminate any issues or problems. Of course that begs the question, why use AIO at all under Zaino? There are other good (and inexpensive) chemical cleaners out there (Megs Medallion, Mothers Pre Wax Cleaner. Just an idea.....

I agree with you here, why use AIO as a base for anything other than SG if your not going to remove the acrylic from AIO? Only one layer can bond to the paint, unless they are of the same type and maybe can for one layer.

True, but AIO is easier to use than most cleaners and requires very little. I think you would need to wash after any chemical cleaner. If thats the case, I think AIO would be the easiest. If the wash removes any protection, then actually you could just use GEPC, and then wash. Same results?

Well, my thought is if you want to use a chemical cleaner, use one without a protective ingredient. With Mothers Pre Wax, you shouldn't need a strong wash after use, just wipe 'er down with a waxless QD or maybe just distilled water. GEPC will prolly get you to the same point but it uses abrasives in a rather oily base so a pre-Zaino wash or wipedown is a must.

Personally I think you could go chemical cleaner > Zaino without an extra step other than a QD due the lack of protectant.

I never wash between AIO and Z. I go straight to Z1, or ZFX enabled Zaino. In over a year I've had zero durability issues using this combo. The Zaino still displays all it's normal traits. There isn't much polymer in AIO IMO, and it doesn't seem to effect the Zaino process at all.

Still use the same system, only difference is for the last few months I've been using Z2 Pro instead of the old Z2.

Brad's positive experience is why I used AIO as a base when I tested Zaino (still going to use the Z5 as well). It seemed to work very well and my brother was very happy with how his van looked.

As far as AIO's aggressiveness, if used with a polishing pad, it will remove light hazing and very light swirls/scratches. The chemical cleaners are also very effective on oxidation. Try searching for Jngrbrdman's Toyota detail to see what I mean.

The reason I used AIO was to avoid the extra washing step, be it dawn or Z7. Brad seemed really happy with the results and he has a lot of experience with that combo and Zaino in general.

AIO straight to Zaino makes the Zaino line-up a lot more user friendly for the professional.
