AHHH! Paint on my pad?

Single stage paint can shine as well as a clearcoat job. As I mentioned earlier, my daughters Nissan is single stage (ss) and there is a very good chance that your car is also single stage. Reputable paint shops will only paint what the original paint was so it seems unlikely that the repaint would be ss while the rest is base coat-clear coat. Here's a picture of my daughters car that is ss and first time I detailed it I got a large amount of transfer as the paint was badly oxidized. Now I get very little.

Wow- that car looks beautiful..... But the thing is that my car is mahogany pearl. It's metallic, with sparkles in it so its got to be two stage right? The dealer probably just did a rush job on the bumper. The bumper never really did look the same once they had their way with it.

Thanks for the compliment. The car wasn't in the best condition when I first detailed it. I would imagine if you called a reputable body shop or a paint supply store they should be able to tell you what kind of paint is on there from the factory. They would need the paint code and it may be on a sticker in the door jamb or maybe in the trunk. The body shop or paint store could tell you where to look. They have books that tell them if it's single stage or clear coat. Let us know what you find out.:)

Okay, upon looking for a paint code in the door jamb, and under the hood, found a sticker in the engine bay that says "HARD CLEAR COAT-USE ONLY APPROVED REFINISH MATERIALS". Well, I guess the 99 Maxima DOES have a clearcoat.. Ya know what, I think I am gonna stop being nourotic abou this color on on my pad and just enjoymy beautiful finsih. I have been more than careful with the PC and there are absolutley NO dull spots on the car to lead me to belive that there was anything burned. It must be the dealer respray on the bumper. ;)

If you only got a little color on your pad it's also possible it was overspray from the bumper repair. On a red car (clear coat) I have had clay pick up a pinkish color from red base coat overspray before. If the body shop wasn't careful in masking off the rest of the car that might be all you're seeing.
