No matter how much you wish it to be different, there is no difference between getting read ended by the uninsured OP on his "special day" and getting rear ended by someone who never has nor intends to get insurance.

As far as whinning goes, he needs to buckle down and deal with the beauracracy. By the way, what's so special about his situation? He didn't have insurance and it wasn't the DMV's fault. It is the OP's responsibility to maintain coverage.

I do not wish it was different at all. I am explaining these events as they are presented in this instance. Allred stated that he was not operating his car on the day he did not have insurance and I was stating my dispproval of people operating cars while not possesing insurance. There is no way that he could have caused a traffic accident in his garage is there? Further I don't beleive that the OP was actually whining I think he was complaining/venting about a bad experience that he had with the DMV, as those types of stories are mildly interesting. If you don't want to hear about it, don't read the thread.

...My old policy expired with Progressive on Saturday July 29th and my new policy with another company didnt start until Monday July 31st at 12am...

As it stands, you're going to pay a fine for going one day without insurance on your tagged vehicle. In the future, don't leave gaps in your insurance coverage.

You can try getting your insurance company to change the start date of your policy. Sometimes they will actually do this. Usually, they will not.

You do make valid points STG, I understand what you are saying.

This is a very different circumstance, which has been explained over and over again.

Thanks for your opinion.

How come you get it and he doesn't?

I get it but I also see his point too. It isn't like he bought a policy to get his car registered and then cancelled it like a lot of people in Texas do. He changed policies and they didn't overlap. Big mistake, yes. But it wasn't something he did to play the system. Same thing happened to me. I was one day late on my insurance payment because I was up at school and didn't have a checking account at the time. My insurance lapsed on Thursday and on Friday, I headed back from Denton to Dallas to drop my payment off. Unfortunately, my car had a bad header gasket and I drove past a cop-who promptly pulled me over for having a loud exhaust (even though they never pull over Harley guys, but that is another rant!) and also gave me a ticket for no insurance, even though I had my payment coupon and the cash paper clipped together and was less than 3 miles from my insurance agent.

I went to court, showed them the paperwork, and explained the sitaution. They reduced the fine to $50 but I still had to file an SR22 for the next 3 years. Damn thing is still on my driving record too, and that was in 1983! Unbelievable! If I got a ticket for doing 100, it would be off my record in 3 years but a no insurance ticket stays on forever. :(

Anyway, the next week I opened a checking account and have been absolutely anal about my renewals being early. I support no insurance laws but I still wish they'd take intent into consideration. Meanwhile, in Texas, we have a huge problem with illegals not having any insurance at all who continue to drive illegally. Pi$$es me off to see so little being done about that.

A warning or fine would get the point across, but an SR22 filing? Come on...

And if you don't tone down your attitude, no one will be reading your posts, at least for a few days. You've been warned once before, as I recall, for similar reasons; consider this strike two. You don't get to be the grammar Nazi, and you don't get to chew out another member, whatever the reason.

No. Not Yours.

turn plates in.... register the car in wifys name and screw DMV.

twice the cops didn't say boo about the insurance in separate incidents there is something for a lawyer to look at for you.

I had my license suspended for 2 yrs and didn't know it, that was fun. when my wallet was stolen and went to report it."I'm sorry sir we have to hold it for 60 days". for what? its been suspended since what ever the date was for a speeder.

oh well thats another thread.

I agree. Here all I'd have to do is sign a statement that the car wasn't used on those days. There are legitimate reasons why a car might still have a valid license and not have a reason to have it insured, such as if it broke down with a problem or some custom work that would take an extended period of time while the license still happened to be in force. Surely there's something in place for cases like this so you don't have to spend hundreds while a car is parked.

If you can't find any answers on your own, I'd call a traffic attorney before filing an SR-22.
