AHH help! Subaru WRX STI!!

Ok Autopians we have an emergency. There is a car that I am doing for one of my customers kids. They have just started using me and I had the joy of seeing what other detail shops are doing to make me look good... haha.. Basically they had their cars, "detailed," for $100. Must I say more? Long story short, there was residue everywhere on both cars... Even inside on the doors! I guess they had people keeping the doors open to clean inside while others buffed or waxed.. Great example of what not to do. I did the Mercedes ML 500 first and it took 7 man hours!

But then the 19year old or 20 year old son came out to show off his enhanced 500 hp WRX Sti. The engine maybe running like a top, but the paint looks like C$@p!!! The wheels look like a nightmare!

The front spoiler is really the whole reason for the post. I feel that the front spoiler looks as if the guys burned the paint and saw what they did so as crazy as this sounds I feel they burned it all across to even out the look!! I know, I know, it sounds nuts, but I have no other idea why it would look like this.

Any suggestions, thoughts, or a gun to shoot myself.. jk. :grinno:

Well I will await your thoughts on this one because I know I can handle the wheels, tailpipe and the paint pretty well, but not the spoiler atleast without suggestions. Many thanks in advance!:D
 
Any pre-existing damage should be pointed out to the client, and note the location in your estimation which the customer should sign. Also, it is important to photograph the defect for your records as you have done here.

Thank you sir. I was looking for advice as to what I can do to poss fix the issues, or atleast make them better. I have talked to him about the issues and I am scheduled for a detail this coming Friday.
 
I am not sure from the pics (hard to see) il looks like an aftermarket front lip (sometime comes with half front bumper) in this case it means non oem paint which could explain.

From one of the pics it only looks like water spots??

finally when i owned an STI at 30kmi the paint was starting to chip from the front bumper which mean it might have been repainted...

Believe it or not its only a year and a half old. He said it was all factory... The only thing that was aftermarket was the wheels and engine work.
 
yes those bbs are stock for all STI (and even the tires re050?)

I looked at pics again and I am not sure it s an after market lip.

My sti was a year old with 25000mi when the paint on the front bumper startd to chip!

Yea I wasnt 100 percent if the wheels were stock, but I didn't get a chance to ask yet, and I figured I would play ti safe in the post. Was your bumper chipping from highway or rough driving, or bc of quality of the paint job?

From the looks of the front lip, it looks aftermarket. Most aftermarket bumpers, front lips included, come in a flat black primer over them, so it requires less work by the body shop to prep them, as opposed to just naked fiberglass. That's what it looks like to me, is just black primered fiberglass :nixweis

No that's some f'd up paint. I did a little internet hunting, and that's the stock bumper. I'd say maybe they were trying to repair rock chips and it's all wet sanded? I have NO clue, but good luck, let us know how it turns out! (if you get to show him what I good car looks like ;) )
 
geeze looks like a nightmare. at least u have before pics, and i'm sure if you work with the owner and explain you'll do what u can aside from giving it a new paintjob, they'll understand! gl!

HAHA, yea its F'ed, but I plan to make it look as good as possible. As crazy as this sounds I was at Home Depot tonight getting some grout sponges and gloves, then I made my way over to the local Taco Bell. As I was eating my fat dinner, there was this guy who came up to me and was asking about my services. Apparently he has a VW GTI that has been detailed today and was charged 400 for just the exterior. I then saw the car under my light as we are in the parking lot and swirl city!!! The car is a yr old and is in major need. I asked to do a portion of a panel so I could see how bad it really was, and after 20 mins he asked when are you free.. HAHA. He has a show he is taking his car to Sunday, and I told him to plan on a late night Sat because I have a lot of work ahead of me. He was beside himself on how much better it looked... THANKS MENZERNA!!! After seeing my results he was really happy, but at the same time he was so mad that the guy charged him 400 for a bad job. He also has a r32 show car that has 30 grand in mods! I am first on the list to handle that too! Guess it pays to eat at Taco Bell. In addition to that, I am going to do a Viper for him too!:woot2:

Thanks for the wishes. I talked to him for a bit, and he knows he has paint issues. I can promise good hard work, but I can't see much improvement on that lip. Well Friday is the big day.:bawling:
 
Subaru black paint is a nightmare. It's very very sticky, I almost have to go to my Cyclo instead of a rotary because it can be such a nightmare.
