After clay polish (retail) recommendation please

Hello,

Glad I found this site, So far since I have registered, I have purchased a PC7336 (lowes 109.00) and I also had Campbell Hausfeld Air DA. I have used the clay magic brand clay often and since lurking on this site and reading and printing as much information I can I am ready to really do a detail on my car this weekend were preperation is key.

Since my knowledge of polishes are limited, due to shelf brand product, I need to research more product, so I can purchase the correct brand and intended usage.

My Burgandy 2k Camry is the subject. The paint overall is in great condition, no oxidation, looks like dealer appointed detailer called “final coat, which left a lot of white residue allover parts. I’ll will have to use soap and a fine brush to remove the residue in the crevices.

My polish I have on hand is 3M (39009) and Meguiars clear coat cleaner and Griots #3.

My question is what after clay polish do you recommend ? The 3M 39009 is for darker color paint, will it be safe use for the burgandy color ? Is the 39009 to aggressive, shall I get the 39003 ? any other alternative polished to get that I can get local (autozone, napa, advance ) any Meguiars ?

Thank you

I'm afraid I'm not of much use when it comes to OTC products, but no, the 39009 is *not* too aggressive. It's almost certainly not aggressive *enough*. Lots of fillers though, so it might make things look a bit better and yeah, the "dark" version is right for your color. But honestly, I'm not a big fan of that product.

Similarly, the Griot's MP3 is very, very mild. Close to nonabrasive when used with the PC and 6-6.5" pads. Sorta a pain to buff off sometimes.

You might look into the 3M PI-3000 SMR (don't remember the number, sorry). That should be the modern replacement for my beloved PI-III MG, which is what I'd recommend if they were still making it. You could always follow such a product with the Griot's MP3 and see if it improves the gloss any.

Be careful with the brush approach to the polish residue. I'd rather scrub with a MF since brushes generally mar paint. Or you could try a paint cleaner like Meg's Deep Crystal Step #1. It might clean that stuff off and prep your paint for the abrasive polishing with the PC.
