After 6 mths...ready to Zaino again

In Feb, I applied 2 coats of Z2 pro with ZFX with Z6 in between coats.

Since then I haven't applied any product except for Z6 to keep my car looking clean( 2 occasions).

I'm now ready to pamper my baby again, here's my questions:

-Do I need to add ZFX with Z2 to my finish or is it a yearly "thing".

-If I clay...do I need to apply ZFX with Z2?

-Also, I think I read on the forum about spritzing the application pad with z6 before applying the Z2 Pro to the pad....does this really help? I thought the pad was to be dry?

Thanks in advance for your help!

With that much time since applying any Z2, I would start as if no protectant is present. Therefore, use the ZFX.

Claying is a different story. Feel the surface texture. Is it rough? Is the vehicle a light color? Do you see/feel any sap or tiny dark spots (oxidized metal (rust))? If so clay.

Personally, I bi-yearly clay my vehicles. Need it or not. There is stuff you can not see that when multiplied millions of time actually distorts the finish appearance projection. Claying is an amazing detailing tool that is quite underrated in it function towards that "Perfect" Shine".

You may also consider a light polishing session with this summer overhaul. Since you are using Zaino, you might look into Sal's new polish/cleanser (Z-PC Fusion). Wonderful stuff that not only enhances the finish but from testing also enhances the bonding of the Z protectants. This is not a proven fact, just something I have been noticing over the last 6-7 months. Of course, you can use whatever polish you used before. It seems to have given you great results. :dance

Summary: Clay

Consider polishing

Use ZFX with Z2-PRO

Hope this helps. :wavey

You really dont need to add ZfX to your Z2 if you already have Z on the car. But you will only be able to apply 1 coat in 24hrs. Now you mentioned that you havn't applied any new Z prodcut since Feb. Because of that length of time I would use the ZFX. If yiu are going to clay or do new complete paint detail then you absolutely need to use ZFX on fresh paint.

I spritz Z6 on my pad and works great, adds a little more spreadability. Sal recomends a damp pad. I jst dont like usinf water. ( one time my pad was a bit too wet and I trapped in some watter streaks and spots)

From what i understand you do not need to use ZFX if you have the time to wait for the curing process. ZFX just accelerates the cure time so you can put multiple coats on in a twenty-four hour period.

I would think that unless you use something other than Zaino products you will have no bonding issues when applying Z-2 after claying.

When i use Z-2 i always spritz the pad with Z-6 to help me get a thin layer of Z-2 on. Did not use that process the first time i used Z-2. Ended up using more product thaqn i would have like and the layers were thicker than i apply now.

From what I've read on here and what Sal suggests: you need either Z1 or ZFX for your Z2/Z5 to adhere properly to naked paint. Now I've never tried applying Z2 by itself to naked paint but it seems that from my previouse statement that the gloss and appearance wont be at its optimum and the durability will be short lived.

Thanks for your quick help!

It looks like I will be using ZFX with Z2 Pro.

Should I wash with Dawn or use Z7?

But, say in a month or 2 if I want to apply 2 coats of Z2 Pro...do I need to have ZFX present, or can I use Z2 Pro alone?

You can apply Z2 Pro by itself if Z is already present but only 1 coat per 24 hrs if not used with ZFX.

Z7 wash is all you need because you have used no oil/silicone/wax toppers.

In 2 months you will only need to use Z2-PRO if there is still evidence, which there should be, that the previous application is still protecting. If you plan to apply 2 coats in one day, yes you will need to use the ZFX enhanced Z2-PRO.
